The penny pinching has cost us millions over the last 3 years and it would appear the same people are making the same mistakes again.

Well Genk didn't mess about and their fans aren't embarrassed :31:. Your point is only valid if the player isn't in demand.

Let's be honest, we were * ourselves at the huns now it turns out we are just as bad.

I don't think anyone can reasonably say we're as bad as the huns. No need to exaggerate:56:

I would much rather we spent that money on Forster if indeed that is Newcastle's valuation of him.

We know he's good, he's already integrated into the squad and he has an excellent attitude and willingness to learn. This Polish guy is nothing more than a youtube video to Celtic fans.

i have been critical of the board for only trying to be slightly better than the huns instead of speculating to accumulate. but to be fair they are doing a good job with the clubs finances in a difficult time. also i think if Lenny thought the polish keeper was worth 2mil then the club would have come back with that offer. its ok saying why dont we just give the asking price, but how many times have we said, why the * did we pay so much for that tube? (insert players name of your choice). i am glad that the club refuse to be held to ransom. we dont have big money to spend so we should pay what we think a player is worth. you have to have a system like that otherwise your skint very quickly.

If we cant afford to sign these players then why did Peter Lawell come out in June and suggest we would be making 2/3 quality players?

What did he mean? What is his definition of quality and how can we afford it?

Because in football, you tend to get what you pay for.

We got lucky last season in that we identified Izzy, Kayal and Ledley. Though we had to pay for them also remember.

That sort of fortune in signing good players wont happen every season, in fact, it will be rare.

If we arent going to sign quality players then the board need to come out and say so. Instead of * us and every club and player they are dealing with.

If a club gives a valuation of a player then we either afford it or not and move on.

How would we react if clubs started doing that with our players?

"Oh, how much is Kayal worth? £8m? , then we will give you £2m"

He would be my first choice as well hammer, although i heard off a polish friend in work the polish keeper was amazing, a would rather have a keeper that i have seen with my own eyes who done a fantastic job last season, than gambling 2 million on someone most of us and the manager hasnt probly seen:50:

    :50:

    Agree 100 %

We get the same old * nearly every transfer window, about this quality supposed to be getting brought in, its been happening for the last 10 year if not more.................. season book fillers to give us stiffys and get us marching down to the ticket office to purchase a cheap season book at £500

Now am delighted with the progress of celtic under the manager and am delighted with the manager but i think he is working with his hands tied behind his back, a dont think he has got any money to spend, if he did it would be spent by now, He would have wanted players in early to get settled before the season begins, a just hope that lawell isnt gambling on what the hunns are spending or doing

You are taking what I've said and taken it to a silly extreme there. If that actually happened, Celtic would obviously immediately reject the bid.

But if a Polish club quote us £2million for a goalkeeper and Celtic value him at £1.5million then why not put in a bid of £1.4million and see what the Polish club do?

If they decide to take the money - great! If they reject the offer then you go back to them and negotiate a price somewhere between £1.4 - 2million.

I think you would find that the vast majority of transfer deals are conducted in that way.

Why, then, would we not invest in, and pay the going rate for, good players instead of the usual season in, season out, * about with offers, loans, trials ?????? Knowing the rewards. We have drawn * all cash from CL for the past 3 years. Right good business.

Imagine we had invested for the last 3 years and reaped the rewards of 25-30 million pounds. But no, lets bid half the asking price for players and then not get them ! Then let's lose the league and get no CL money.

    Gets really * boring.

Us laughing at the huns transfer dealings ?

    Aye right.

The way things are going it will be 4IAR for the khuntz.

    This really is toytown.

    Don't be ridiculous.

A soundbite from Peter Lawwell will have absolutely no impact on season ticket sales.

We have money to spend but It's limited. His words were 'I think we just need two or 3 quality additions and we'll be ready'. Nothing has changed. The club will be working tirelessly behind the scenes. Value for money is paramount, that's why we're taking our time. It's not as simple as to say we can either afford it or we move on, bargains are there for the patient - especially towards the end of the window when clubs will be more willing to sell and will usually accept lower bids.

Marky, sorry mate. I honestly didnt see your post (I just skimmed through them) and wasnt commenting on what you personally said. Its just my opinion on it. I am giving an extreme example but it still stands up. If a club came in and started messing us around, even if it was a few hundred K then we would be up in arms. The fact that the figures seem so marginal ie a few hundred K for the sake of a good keeper makes it more frustrating.

Aye over the road in govan, i think if a player is valued at 2 million then you dont offer the £600 thousand figure that i seen what we were supposed to have offerd them for him, newspaper reports said we put in a bid of 1.4 million after this but i dont even believe that either, the only people who know what happens in these situations is celtic and jagiellonia not these guessers in the press, anyway it looks as though we have missed out on him so a hope we manage to secure forrester:50:

Well It's obviously a balancing act. I don't think we're doing too badly with the squad Neil has assembled. It seems you like it better this way anyway mate:50:

Since Peter Lawwell's soundbites are getting brought into the discussion, it's only fair that we comment on what he actually said.
