But Man Utd have worldwide backing solely because they outspent everyone in the early years of the premiership. They were just lucky enough to get in first. There is no inherint reason why Man Utd are supported in Africa and Asia other than they win lots and are succesful. And that is because they outspent every team in the premiership for years. Then Chelsea did it. Now Man City.

As I say, football is crazy but the only chance a team like Man City has to win the league is by doing exactly what they have done. Hate the game, not the player.

Through quite a lot of luck too though.

Man Utd got lucky in that when they bought their first couple of titles, it was just as the Premiership Sky money and big Champions League money kicked in, so they got a lot back through that to spend again and again.

If Liverpool had hung on an extra 2/3 years they'd be in Man U's position.

A lot of people act like Man Utd built it all up from hard work but it was more sheer luck, that prize money went sky high just as they bought their titles and then it all rolled on from there.

English football was always competitive between a good few teams, there was never 1 dominant big team(apart from Liverpool from the late 70s to mid 80s).

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's a total money-go-round.

Man U for years, and more recently Chelsea, and now Man City.

On the bright side though, the levels of debt there are not sustainable in the long term, so no great surprise if the whole thing comes crashing down around their ears in the not-too-distant... :icon_mrgreen:

Amazing end to the season. I celebrated for Man City's goals. Not because I support them but just because it was a magic moment. Great stuff.

    :50: what I just said

People act like Man U were always the top team they have been for the last 20 years when in reality they done a Chelsea/Man City in the late 80s/early 90s to get their way to the top, it was luck.... or good judgement they done it just as the Prize money went up massively in the League and Europe that let them continue to spend by winning.

EPL is a very money orientated league. It's impossible to win it without spending huge amounts of money and even then it's not a guarantee as Newcastle found out in the mid 90s.

Blackburn spent a ridiculous amount to win the title in 95 too.

The harsh reality of it all is that goal may well have kept Mancini in a job. I'm glad for guys like Mancini, Aguero, Toure who deserve success, shame it wasn't at a more deserving club

The guy who put the "fist" into "pacifist" :56:

What with the gooners getting 3rd today, and Newcastle getting beat, my one regret is that QPR didn't go down. Barton richly deserved it.

Hopefully the * will get slaughtered by the FA - banned sine die, * him.

Tax evasion and being legally bankrolled by a billionaire are two very different things. I thought that was fairly obvious.
