I have no problem with nostalgic rebel songs either (the issue is specifically IRA chanting).

The numbers which participate in the “Fields of Athenry” add-ons (“We had dreams and songs to sing – IRA”) is embarrassingly low. Why? Because most no longer see the IRA as a political relevance.

Agreed mate. If Celtic are at Ibrox and find themselves behind almost the whole away support belt out "The roll of honour" or something along the lines and get the teams spirit up. Never seems to be an objection there.

I've seen what happens if certain songs get shouted down at the game, it usually results in someone getting a sore face. That is why the majority keep their mouths shut.
Why do we need to wait on the authorities telling us some songs are wrong, the press are doing the job for them. We have seen the power of not singing rebel songs last season, We just can't get enough, let's all do the huddle..anyone.

    What is this?

My opinion counts more because I attend away games..

If that's his opinion then fine. Do you have to attend games if you want your opinion to be respected now?

As i said before these songs were song at cp long before i was born, my father was born etc. They are part of this club.
I for one am not buying into the sectarian media hype that these songs glorify terrorism and such. They are ligitimate songs of a soveregin country. They are NOT wrong and nothing to be ashamed off.

    Let the people sing

i too am proud of celtic football clubs Irish heritage. but we were formed by a man who was a peaceful priest and i reckon he'd be abhorred by some of the songs we sing that glorify an organisation that is widely considered to be terrorists rather than the country of our forefathers. our club has always welcomed anyone through its doors no matter their creed or colour......these songs alienate a section of society who believe us to be a club that isnt open to anyone of any creed or colour.....and that is wrong. i apologise for annoying anyone with my beliefs. that is not my intention...but i do have a right on a forum to air those beliefs...so please spare me the abuse.

    Im just asking the question.

If he did attend every away game he would know that it its a minority that don't see relevance in IRA songs.

    That’s the best you’ve got?

Enough to establish the lack of enthusiasm regarding IRA add-ons (equates to a ripple in terms of magnitude).

Perhaps because it now only exists politically. And as a political entity has fourteen members of the southern house of representation.

I am of the opinion that you should be able to sing whatever you want at the football because it doesn't offend me at all, same goes with the huns and their songs. They don't offend me.

Let the people sing their stories and their songs.
