Nah, it's not the cop's fault, it is society's fault.

Weren't the rioters supposed to be socially deprived people with no prospects, no hopes, no education, they'd just had enough and needed help not condemnation?

Obviously not the case for some of the first lot to appear in court, looks like some of those involved had jobs or were in education, so much for the fact they had no prospects being the driving force behind their thuggery, rather I'd say it was greed and if they all lose their job or college place I won't feel sorry for them deserve everything they get.

Society forces the cop to act this way just like it forces youth to go out rioting and stealing.

    Say no to individual responsibility!

True, he should have just tasered the little * and saved himself the energy.

Just a lad on a bike? What the * is "a lad on a bike" doing out at that time of night, in the middle of a riot if he's not involved in it.....what is he, a roving reporter for newsround!

The point is that if you want the police to be able to lamp someone for just being in the wrong place then you are going down a very dangerous path.

Aye the wee * was no doubt up to no good, but even just getting him of his bike and having a word would be better than knocking him senseless.

The boy did not hit out or strike the officer first.

I know what people are saying here , however if these kids had got a clout round their ear a few times when they were younger we wouldnt be in this position now !!!

Didnt do me any harm at all :86:

That is what I was saying to my dad today.

When he was young he would have got a hiding had he done anything wrong, whether that be off his parents, or neighbours in his scheme. Any wrong doing always got back to the parents.

When I was young I may not have got a skelp, but I still knew that my neighbours knew me, and if I were in trouble would tell me folks.

Now people are faceless, if you see a kid misbehaving you probably dont even say anything to the kid, let alone go to their parents.

The days of a clip round the ear are long gone, but perhaps the days of knowing your neighbours well should come back. Regardless smacking a youth with a baton is not a clip around the ear.

i got a slap when i was young and i was a wee * as a teenager, it never done me any good. In and out of polmont (I've grown up now). I dont think violence towards children is the answer. These kids are probably exposed to violence on a daily basis and that probably leads them to believe that its an acceptable way to behave. If we lived in an equal society we probably wouldnt be seeing this kind of chaos.

The cop should have used his skull as a trampoline.

This uber PC generation needs a * shake, then maybe we won't have 7-12 year olds out smashing up shop windows.

Agree the wee * got off lightly btw all them bikes was stolen during a bike shop being ransacked but aye was just normal kids out riding bikes at night doing no harm.

The shop keepers should just unlock the doors and let them do what they want some people on here would rather support scum than seeing them getting what they deserve.

I wonder why the residents of chelsea or mayfair (or wherever the bourgoise live) have not joined in with the riots. Poor people must be just born bad.

No Rachael, the point is that wee toerag and his skanky mates should have been at home instead of riding round the streets during a riot. And I don't believe for a moment they were completely innocent. As much as I know that there are some right nasty coppers out there they're not usually in the habit of battoning innocent kids.

Wee * should have been in his bed with a bowl of sugar puffs...and his parents should now be in a dock for child negligence.

There is a shocking lack of responsibility in the UK that has been imposed on generations of kids to the extent that they now think society owes them. It's about time people started taking responsibility for their own actions instead of looking to blame others all the time.

What a nonsensical statement to make.

Maybe the people of Chelsea or Mayfair got there as a result of * hard work instead of thieving, looting and rioting. Or is hard work not allowed anymore?

I was born poor...poorer than I'd liked to have been but I * worked my bollocks off to get out of poverty and took control of my own destiny and didn't wait for someone to come along and hand it to me. So do me a favour and spare us this nonsense that those scum who looted did it out of a need to survive, because it's patently untrue.

I am not saying the kids should have been out, trust me I really hate what is going on. I just dont think that hit first ask questions later, is the right option for the police. They are doing a tough job, I am not saying the should be using kid gloves in general, they are riot police..they are trained not to be a soft touch...but I just think that case in the video is wrong. Once the kid is off the bike..did he really need a whack as well?
