Exactly. All this rubber bullets and send in the army stuff is just liable to escalate matters.

What's needed is the commmunity standing firm and saying No, this is not acceptable. That's the best chance of putting an end to this pish.

That and the rain, as you mentioned earlier. Few nights of heavy rain would be a godsend right now.

But the demonstrations about that were peaceful - the local community just wanted to speak to someone from the police and find out what was going on. Police refused to send someone out to speak to them, so a planned one-hour silent protest turned into four hours. By which time it was getting dark, and a lot of younger folk started gathering.

Then - I'm getting this from my friend who was in Tottenham at the time - a group of policemen in riot gear gave a beating to a 16-year-oid girl who'd been shouting at them. That's when it really kicked off. There's footage of it on YouTube.

Beating a 16 yo girl? I've never heard so much * in all my life. Watch sky news an yel see what's happening. Wee scummy scrots running riot cause they know they'll only get a slap on the wrist.

If a cop hits one for throwing bricks an petrol bombs ye get comments like that above, that's why they can get away with it.

 

Not gonna happen.There may be protests, but by people with a cause......and they will not be stealing from shopkeepers.
3 million+ unemployed created by Thatcher in the 80's....poll tax....etc...it came it went.There will be no socialist revolution mate.People will never revolt to bring in an even more oppressive regime where they lose their freedom rather than their opportunity.(which by the way we all have....we still have free education in this country)

Because my friend was in Tottenham that night, and there were no riots before they beat into that young girl with their batons at a peaceful protest. That is what started it off.
