I don't think it is anyway near 30 million. It was over 10 years ago 9 million and I know at that time there was over 1 million fans in north America. I think as football has expanded there a lot it could of gone up half a million. I think at most it is at 12-13 million.

If you go back and watch some of the old games from the O'Neill era on YouTube against the likes of St Mirren and Dunfermline (diddy teams basically) at Parkhead, you'll see it's just the same. About 30,000 at most, especially on a winter night. I get the feeling the Lennon era will be similar to the MON era, in terms of excitement and passion and this past season has definitely attracted the interest of Celtic supporters who maybe stopped watching the season before, thanks to Mowbray.

As I've said before, the only thing that matters to me is that we have far more than The Huns. If we had an estimated 9million worldwide in 1998, then it'll definitely have increased in the 13 years since then, especially as someone pointed out before me, due to the signings of Nakamura and Ki, along with lesser known players like Du Wei and Mizuno.

I dont agree with that at all. If you are a Celtic fan in a foreign country and they come to play, then you are going to attend right? Assuming you dont make the games at CP. If it was me, I would be there.

Crowd was disappointingly low for me. Looked 3/4s empty.

I'm getting * off with all this 'We are a big, huge, enormous club, biggest club in the world' malarkey.

Honestly, "Celtic rather be a Rich club than a Big club" in my opinion.

Being a 'Big' club doesn't buy you good & quality players. Money, aye, Money buy's you the cream.

In today's world it's not how big you are, it's how rich you are that matters.
Hence the reason we buy average to poor championship & lower division players or some obscure foreign import & not afford top international or fantastic European & world famous players.

We can't even afford what a Stoke City or a Fulham can afford & that my friend is the harsh reality.

We don't have much else to boast about, playing in the SPL :56:

We say it because it's true. We are definitely up there with the biggest clubs in the world, in terms of success, tradition and history.

Think that's a bit harsh, the tickets were much more than an average SPL game at Celtic Park due to you having to buy all day tickets, so not only is it expensive you're being forced to pay for something you're probably not going to use.

This tournomeant has been planned for ages saving a fiver a week would have got them in or euros. I know a guy on minimum wage who attends every single game in spl and cups and still manages two trips away in Europe he's over there the now what he says to me is his priority is Celtic not going down the pin at weekends. Fair play to the lad

the fact that were only able to affoard lower level players is down to the pishy wee league we play in and lack of interest in it.

doesnt take away from the fact that were one of the biggest clubs in the world!

Have you seen the international games at the aviva recently? awful. Doesnt mean there isnt as much Ireland fans in Ireland ffs. People simply cant afford to go to games anymore. That would apply to Celtic fans in Ireland too.

I think its fair to say though that clubs such as Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal probably have a bigger support in Ireland. It certainly seemed that way when I was over there. The SPL and Celtic in particular hardly got a mention in the media that I could see.

I dont stay there so I could be wrong. You may know better.

I appreciate that times are tough. But if the club you follow come to your country and you cant make it, that is a little disappointing. Internationals are different. Im a Scotland fan and I rarely go to home games these days, and Hampden doesnt get sell outs either.

Also if you miss one international, another one will be along soon. How often do Celtic play in the republic?

Depends on whereabouts in the country you are. Some parts is literally full of tims and others full of EPL supporters and others would have local LOI supporters etc

From my knowledge the six counties and parts of Dublin,Donegal have the hardcore Celtic support but I have to agree thoughout the whole island Manchester United have the biggest support mainly because of the loads of Irish players they use to have. Arsenal not much and liverpool have great support. Alot of people support both an epl team and Celtic too altough that would be considered glory hunting by many.

Media wise the SPL as a whole rarely gets a mention but the irish newspapers that I usually read such as the Irish star have there own dedicated page to Celtic news. RTE and UTV always show the goals from Celtic matches too.

We do have a massive support here but I agree we cant compete with the worldwide machine that is Man Utd.

i think that the fact its a friendly counts for a lot. i myself wouldnt bother spending what is a good bit of money to see a mish mash of 1st team, reserve, or shop window players. I'd rather save my money for travelling to glasgow when i can.to see the REAL team in a competitive game. its not like back in the 60's and 70's any more when teams used to actually put out the 1st team for pre season games, mores the pity.
