We have the poacher in Stokes, the hard-working small bully who chips in with a good few goals (big game player as well), we have the bit-part striker who can do the damage on the very odd occasion in Samaras and Murphy, well, Murphy is Murphy and probably won't get a game this season.

But what type of forward do we need?

I don't think we need an out-and-out goal scorer, like, say, a Boyd type, if you will, that's why we have Stokes.

I think we maybe need a guy, like Mcfadden, who can play up front, on the wide positions and behind the striker. Someone who can create goals as well as have a moment of magic. I know we have Commons doing the majority of that but he couldn't be fired up front in case of injuries to the team.

So, ideally, for me, I'd have a forward, not a striker, who is pretty capable of playing 2-3 positions that can score as well as create.

    What do you lot think?

My pairing for the coming season is definitley Stokes and Hooper.

Suppose you're right. A tall player that has something about him. You'd probably struggle to get a good player out of the hybrid if you merged Sammy and Murphy together.

But then Barcelona don't have a tall striker...

A big target man who could be relied on to fill in for Stokes/Hooper

They don't need tall strikers because of the way Pep coaches his team to play, and the way the youth players are taught to play. They only scored 7 headers last year.

We just need another goalscorer, regardless of height.

Tall striker who isn't a * and can get stuck in and do a physical job on the very physical defenders in the SPL. Might no need it all the time but we missed that last year imo and have done since Hartson left. Aye JvoH done a good as a target man and I would take a guy who can play like that again. All I know is is that we need a physical target man

Carew AND Mphela. We want both types. If hooper gets injured we are in a bit of trouble I think so mphela would fit in. Carew would run riot in our league if he stayed fit.

Although if they were being savaged by both dogs and leopards, it might go to extra time...

I dont even think we scored that many? Hooper scored one, Mulgrew scored one, Ledley scored one, Loovens scored one, Rogne scored one and Wilson scored one I think. We only got 6 I think.

Its something we've lacked for a while since Hesselinks first season really when he and McManus scored a few.

The point im making is we dont need a big target man striker to hold play up, score headers from high balls in etc the way that the other guy suggested. Meaning look at a team like Barca who are a relatively small team and the amount of goals they score without this type of player.

We dont need a certain type of striker is the point im trying to make - we simply need one who will score more goals than what we have on offer now if Hooper was to get injured. Whether he scores tap ins from 4 yards, curlers from the edge of the box, or whether he's 5ft 1 or 6ft 4 doesn't matter.
