What has religion got to do with it mate?

What's wrong with feeling patriotic about your orgins. If a 3rd generation Indian born in Scotland wanted to celebrate his roots there wouldn't be a problem.

Fair point, I meant the heritage of the club as a whole not individual fans. For example I myself of Irish heritage wouldn't go to a stadium like the camp nou and think this whole Catalan thing doesn't mean anything to me and then try to dilute their heritage, I would accept that thats just the way the club is.

Nobody would have the right or ever dare to question that.

But, do you get the whole thing that it's a spoting event. Entertainment for one and all? Regardless of heritage, past or anything else, should a sporting event ever be a place for political agendas? Because you can't deny the very nature of the songs. I don't think, as I was never told, that I have any Irish roots. I never lived through any troubles. I went to a catholic school, but was never big on the whole religion thing and don't call myself one now. I think it would be stupid for me to stand there and sing something I have absolutely no idea what it truely means, like it did to those who lived through it, or have a connection to those that did.

I don't feel like singing the songs, but believe me I do support 100% that you are not singing anything offensive to me, or to anyone else in my opinion. So don't think I am saying that these songs have to go because they are offensive, but just becasue they are not about Celtic FC 2011

I agree with you, feeling patriotic about your origins is healthy and a great thing, but not to the the extent where you think more of the country of your heritage than the one you live in.

I have catalan family. I even speak a catalan and if went to the Camp Nou and told them to play down the whole catalan thing. I would probably be told to * off.

And quite rightly so, a strong identity is something to be proud of

No Celtic fan is asking other fans to play down the Irish connection from what I can see (rightly so).

If he was born in England, yes. I believe it should be the country where you're born, and none of this parent and grandparent rule crap.

But can't identity and what happens on match day be seperate? As I previously stated, it's not every Celtic fans identity.

We should celebrate our clubs true history. Not a history in Irish/British politics/battles, but a history of the greatest Scottish Football team in existence. Reveared and lauded the World over. Lets celebrate the EC, our great players, managers and moments. Thats the true history of Celtic.

All of our history was made, written and played out on grass with 22 men.

Not a politician or soldier in sight.

What if someone is born in Scotland but their entire family before he was born are English? Would that person not be entitled to play for England, especially if the person ends up growing up in England?

If thats how you feel then fair enough, I however personally feel that without without an armed republican movement there wouldn't be an Ireland as we know it today.

Fair point, and I am aware this is a very ambiguous topic. In my opinion, the country where you're born should be your nationality end of story, which simplifies things.

Thats great, I will happily join in singing about celtic's football achievements, that as well is something to be extremely proud about. I wouldn't dream of criticising people on match day for not joining in with republican songs however it annoys me when people have an issue with others singing republican songs.
