It sounds fun, but to tell the truth I'd have no idea how it would work. I've never done fantasy football or anything like that before.

You pick a team of players in the draft (e.g. 2C, 2RW, 2LW, 4D, 2G) so that everyone has a different team of players, and then you're given points based on how those players perform. Generally the Yahoo categories are goals, assists, +/- etc. The points awarded depend on whether you play rotisserie or head to head.

It's really pretty simple and doesn't take long to get to grips with. If you have a semi decent knowledge of NHL players you'd be alright. The first season I played it I hadn't watched the NHL in much detail in a few years. It really helped me to get to know players on teams other than the Canucks.

This is a decent link for any questions you might have - http://www.fantasysportshero.com/fantasy/hockey/how-to-play/

Ok. Go for it, I'm sure I'll pick it up. When will the live draft be held?

So you literally pick 2 players per position and swap any of them with free agents at any time? And whoever is involved in most goals/assists/saves etc gains the most points? That's pretty much what I was expecting anyway, based on what I know of fantasy football.

Are there limits to do with wages or anything? I seem to remember something about fantasy football only allowing you a certain budget.

Yeah, you can swap them with any free agents that other teams haven't claimed or you can trade with other players.

There are no wage limits in this game because everyone picks different players in the draft e.g if I were to draft Crosby in the 1st round, then he would be unavailable to every other team as he's on mine.

As for the live draft, we'd try and organise it so that it's at a time that suits everyone involved. There's plenty of time until the season begins still so it shouldn't be too difficult.

The fantasy league sounds like fun but to be honest my knowledge of the NHL is probably a bit sketchy for me to be any use at it. I know a few of the players on the main teams but outside of that I'm pretty lost.

I think a few people will be in the same boat. It's up to you whether you want to join or not. I found that it was really good for introducing me to players of other teams when I first started as I'd start to keep an eye on their stats etc.

The majority of us are far from experts Marky, so it's mainly just a bit of a laugh and a way to get to know the NHL a bit more. Plus, even the so-called experts can hardly call it correctly anyway.

I mean, Toronto for the play-offs last year? C'mon man! :86:

Messaged WaterfordCeltic and let him know. He's attending his first WHL game this weekend so hopefully he catches the hockey bug.

I'll give this until tomorrow to see whether others want to join, and then we'll sort out the draft details.

Crap. Completely forgot that I said I'd do this the other day.

When is everyone available for drafting? I was thinking a weekend, since most people work during the week and we have a couple of North Americans who would probably be working if we did an evening draft during the week.

It might be tough for me find a time that will work as I'm home at the family farm helping with harvest for a few weeks and we go 12 hours a day every day. That said go with a time that works for most people and I'll try to work around it.

Maybe there isn't quite enough interest for this.

We'll see how things go in the next day or two.

Always say that I'm going to get into NHL when the new season comes around, but I don't understand the game enough to enjoy it. I'm going to watch it this season but I think I'm going to stop watching after a while because I won't have a scooby what's going on:56:.

Anyone know of anything I can read/watch to clue me up a bit?

Sundays would be best for me but I'll let you know about any other proposed times.

Also if you're struggling to get enough people to take part and don't want to call it off, maybe a couple of members will have mates who'd join to make up the numbers? I know one guy who'd probably join.
