Celtic have tabled a £500,000 bid for Burnley's 19-year-old striker Kyle Lafferty and the teenager would welcome a January move to Glasgow.

The 6ft 4in youngster is a Northern Ireland international, having already won seven caps for his country and scored one international goal.

"Celtic are a huge club and I'm honoured to be the subject of a bid," Lafferty told BBC Sport.

"I grew up supporting Rangers but that wouldn't stand in my way."

Lafferty has bagged four league goals for Burnley this season, making 11 starts and 13 appearances as a substitute.

"Obviously there's a long way to go but I'll be talking to my club and my agent," added Lafferty, who moved to Turf Moor from NFC Kesh in the summer of 2004.

"I'll also have to have a long chat with my mum and dad.

"Celtic are massive and the lure of European football is very appealing."

Looks like this was 2nd on the shortlist to Stokes. If they've done their homework like they did on Naylor, I'll be delighted, i've heard nothing about this lad until today.

6'4" sounds like a target man to me

    Nicknamed "Paddy Crouch" :56:

Don't know if he's £500,000 worth. Not seems to scores enough goals? Never heard of him...

better strike rate than miller ever had down there.

imo would be a better option than horsfield. we need a target man as cover so should be ok. still think we'l sign another striker aswell - one who can score goals

Is Beattie not quite tall? I thought he was 6 ft 2 or something. I smell another Virgo.

He's a decent player and still young enough to learn and for that price you've done well to get him.He played against Sunderland a few weeks ago and he looked good scoring from around the edge of the box.

Unfortunately, I can see another Neil Lennon scenario.

I can see his parents warning him of that happening and it could put him off.

Its a sad thing to have to say

it would be ironic if we land this kid who grew up as a rangers fan when we couldnt land stokes who grew up as a celtic fan.

But yeah dempsey I wouldnt be suprised if his family tells him to not go to Celtic so he could play for the national team without being discriminated by their fans.

never seen this one coming but yeah beats signing horse anyday:50: ..we have needed a back up target man for jvoh all season and being irish and 19 is a major plus..
only seen him play only once and reminded me of a young niall quinn
plus £500,000 for a potential star of the future is good business it seems like he has right attitude and can only improve watching jvoh in training

Jesus Christ! Steven Pressley and Kenny Miller used to play for Rangers, and we're going for Rangers fans. Fair enough, they're good, but we're turning into the huns.
