I spoke to an air traffic controller in the past and l'm sure the training centre was in the South of England, possibly Bournemouth.

What's the pay for an air traffic controller?

By the sounds of things you aren't keen on travelling at the minute but I assume air traffic controllers do the same all over the world, so it is good that it if you do decide you want to travel a bit, you will be in a job that can transfer to other countries with minimal extra training.

My mate went for the test and interview, he said it was solid. Couldn`t handle it myself and also not qualified enough to even go for it.

A word on careers advisors, by all means listen to their advice but wouldn`t take to much consideration to what they tell you.

*, that's a lot more than I thought it'd be. You need a degree or anything?

Those are brilliant wages like, I assume though that it's a difficult job to get, and that you only get that sort of money once you've moved up the ladder a good bit?

RAF is the most direct option to get into ATC. To apply you'll need standard grades & highers at grade B or above (including maths). Then you'll have to go through their selection process. For ATC you'll get a very in depth and relatively tough filter interview. If successful you'll be sent to Officers and Aircrew Selection Centre at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire. You'll be there for 3/4 days of rigorous testing and you'll be in competition with everyone else there vying for a job. You can be sent home at any time. You'll also have to pass a medical, fitness test, final interview and another set of aptitude tests at some point.

In the RAF you won't be trained at Prestwick. The first couple of months of your training will be at Cranwell in Lincolnshire again. ATC travel a lot.

And the RAF are currently recruiting for ATC so get on the RAF website, register your interest and you'll be sent an application form online. Fill it in and you could be in your local recruiting office within two weeks.
