I would say he is a legend.

Not one of the all time greats but a legend all the same. Love Chris Sutton :50:

What exactly is the criteria of legend though, I guess is the question that has to be asked. Undoubtedly an absolute class act, a genuine Celtic hero & one of my personal favourites, but a legend?

    What is the benchmark?

IMO, I'd have Sutton in the same catagory as blokes like Lubo & Naka of recent times. No doubt their undeniable quality & sheer ability, champions and heroes of the highest order but for mine a legend is that little step beyond - the likes of McGrory, Tully, Jinky, McGrain, Maestro & Henrik.

    he's a hero, an icon...rather than a legend imo.

Celtic Legend I would say, not on the same level of legends such as Larsson, Jinky, McNeill etc. But I would put him in the 2nd tier of Celtic Legends.

IMO a legend is someone who will never be forgotten - or their accomplishments for their club.....

In that respect, I consider guys like Sutton, Hartson, Lambert and Lennon Celtic legends:50:

I would say without Sutton, Larsson would have been slightly less prolific, those two together were sensational

i'd say yes, sutton was a modern day 'legend' he was certainly my fave of O'Neill's signings; as well as being a great striker and a tough *, the day when he actually said what we were all thinking about Dumfermline in 2003 showed how much it meant to him

his hunskelping antics also help :50:

Honestly hand on heart nah, not a legend. We run the risk of cheapening the word to be honest.

A world class and vastly under rated footballer - yes. I still think, despite a number of Celtic fans realising it, people fully understand how crucial a player he was not only to Celtic but to Blackburn whilst he was there.

I agree with this, big Sutty was a fantastic player but i wouldn't class him as one of the greats.

How would you and others class a legend mate.

What does a player have to do in peoples in eyes to recieve the 'legendary' status.....especially at Celtic?

For me I think we have the all time greats: McNeill, Jinky, Henrik, Dalglish, McGrain, McStay

Then there's the legends: Sutton, Thommo, Neil Lennon etc
