i think celtic, are heading in the wrong direction, and have been. for more than 6 years, we spend money, but never seem to buy a player of note,
this year we have brought in players like stokes, ledley, and hooper, and to me, they are not going to set the heather alight, in europe, i see them struggle with the smaller teams to know enough, we will be no better than a middlin team. it was hard enough in europe with the likes of Henrik Sutton and Hartson, in the team, then getting there with Skippy,Robson,McGready, Naka, this year i cant see us make a dent in europe. cant even say who we have as a forward line:54:

If you take a look at last season, and compare it to this season, then i can't see how you can think we're not going in the right direction.

Although i'd agree we're not the same as the days of Larsson, sutton, hartson days, but i can't see us ever getting another henrik larsson, not anytime soon anyway...

also under strachan we made the last 16 twice....after the MON era... = right direction.

We're not the same as in the past and probably never will be. We can't compete with the big money leagues for quality. However, we're heading in the best direction possible, picking up players with a lot of potential and enough current ability to compete for the SPL.

It's a very exciting time for Celtic and I don't know how you could think any different.

Larsson, Sutton, Hartson, Thompson, Lennon, Moravcik, Petrov and Mjallby weren't necessarily players of note when we signed them either.

Disagree with the OP and feel that we are moving in the right direction by buying young talent and improving our squad in every position compared to last year. Lets see what we do in this transfer window, as Lenny has more than proved he has an eye for a player.

This. In this league especially, it's going to be hard to buy well known, big name players. Obviously there will be a couple of exceptions, but it is because of Celtic that half of these guys have the big reputation they have today.

I think we have improved and have the basis of a team that should win the title with a few additions. However I do understand how some people feel. It was not so long ago we were respectable at CL level with pretty average players. By the time we are back in the CL, it will have been at least 3 seasons without. It just feels wrong that we had some sort of Euro respectability and then suddenly tumbleweed.

The standard of player has dropped in the past few seasons but it's increasingly hard to find and to attract players to Scotland. The reality is we just can't compete now with the wages on offer in England.

I think we'll find out this season when we play in the Europa League just where we are in terms of standards. The SPL is really a two horse race, so it's hard to judge the team.

The club will continue to try and find players of a better standard - keep the faith!!!!!

Larsson wasnt really a top notch player before he joined Celtic, yes he was an International but was more on the fringes, when he come to Celtic he was just comming into his greatness. What about Kayal, Izziguire and Hooper? ok not huge world class players YET!

The transfer market is a complete different place from what is was 5-10 years ago Celtic are a small fish in a huge pond of wealth we just cannot compete with the Premiership, La Liga * i would even go to say Russia and Ukraine these teams get MASSIVE budgets given to them where thay are able to spend 50+ million.

Im happy with the way Celtic are going great manager, great back room, great director and board. I would be happier doing what we are doing now and living within our means rather than being tens/hundred of millions in dept or a sugar daddy that piles money into the club to buy success.

I agree we won't do well (last 16 CL) in Europe without a team of 'Big Men' like the MON and WGS eras who can park the bus and pop a 1-0 past world class sides.

But on the other hand I like watching Celtic play this way, and we're on the edge of achieving success with it. Being the Barca of the SPL with at least some decent Europe runs would do fine imo. :50:

Don't upset the apple cart here, or the wains will be throwing their dummy * out the pram, reality hurts, to look at facts, we have wasted millions on players for years, and now bailing these scum out again, will have to see how serious they are about Europe and our pish league:38:

We have a young team, and slowly getting out the dead wood, Lennon's done a grand job and got another trophy in the cabinet, lets hope its the league title next season, and hopefully keep the Scottish Cup. Last season was pathetic, half of our team were Loans, but now Lennon is slowly building a team, James Forrest is young aswell, and just got his first cap for Scotland, wee fat Fleck etc, don't get any international football.

May I add: Kris Commons and Kayal will be there from the start of the season (next season) exciting things ahead. Really hope we get into the Europa League Group stages.

To say we are going in the wrong direction is bizarre, Kayal, Izza, Commons, Ledley and Hooper have all made big contributions this season, we didn't have the lure of European football last year because we were playing with the team Mowbray left and I think this side will at least qualify and then it's onwards and upwards under Lenny imo.
