Read Gone Girl in about three days there, absolutely sensational. Cannot wait for Fincher's film this week.

Quite enjoying this book as I recently watched Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends on Netflix. In this book he goes back to the US a few years after Weird Weekends to catch up with some of his interviewees and see how they're getting on.

Be forewarned, each one has a very distinct style. You'll fly through the Hobbit, but I've been on the same chapter of the Fellowship for a few weeks now. :icon_mrgreen:

I'm at Moria right now, but I've read the book before so this is just a re-read for me (hence why I feel comfortable enough to sit it aside whilst life occupies my attention for a brief while! :icon_mrgreen:). It's honestly not too bad, you just have to have a bit of dedication! I have the single-volume edition of the Lord of the Rings, so it looks like I've only made a tiny dent in the work, when in reality I've read quite a substantial amount!

Have you read anything else by Tolkien, The Silmarillion or anything?

I've read the Silmarillion (and was actually re-reading it out loud to my fiancée's little brother not long back). And I've also read The Children of Húrin, which was edited by Tolkien's son Christopher. I actually really enjoyed The Children of Húrin, it was somewhat Hobbitesque except with the gravity of the Lord of the Rings.

The Silmarillion is pure poetry. You can't just read it straight through though. Approach the Silmarillion like a bible. That would be my best advice. Of course, you can read it straight through too! :icon_mrgreen: But it's not really a novel, it's more like the drama of the Holy Scriptures.

Just for info. There is talk about making the Silmarillion into movies. This would be excellent as it would include The Valar, a lot more Dragons and Morgoth.
Read Hobbit when i was 7 and Lord of The Rings when i was 11 (in one sitting). Took a while to get into the Silmarillion and The Children of Húrin but enjoyed it nonetheless.
Also, if you are into heavy metal listen to Blind Guardian album Nightfall in Middle earth. It's The Silmarillion set to metal. Excellent album.

Started reading "The Girl Who Saved The King Of Sweden".

Enjoyed the authors last book, "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared", so i hope this one is as good.
