Yeah it is just a workout to get the players up to speed and a money making exercise by the board.

I think the time away will help the players bond and increase cohesion in the squad, as well as the obvious, like improving match fitness, etc. Also, it offers our Australian cousins an opportunity to see the Bhoys.

    I don't see a problem.

A CRACKING goal from Troy Hearfield has given the Central Coast a stunning win over visiting side Celtic at ANZ Stadium last night.
Hearfield broke the deadlock in the 87th minute with a blast from 20 metres. The win, albeit in a friendly, is sure to delight Mariners fans.
Earlier, the Mariners had defended stoutly against a team boasting 91 domestic trophies.

Neither goalkeeper was forced into a significant save over the opening 45 minutes, as last season's Scottish and Australian league runners-up struggled to create chances in a tepid first half.
Celtic put a couple of attempts wide and the Mariners had their best spell just before the break, forcing a couple of corners and having two shots blocked.
Celtic gave debuts to two off-season signings, defenders Adam Matthews and Kelvin Wilson, and included just three starters from their Scottish Cup Final-winning team.
The Mariners started with six of their run-on side from the A-League grand final loss to Brisbane Roar.
The Mariners let slip a 2-0 extra-time lead in last season's A-League grand final. With a host of talented youngsters at his disposal, Central Coast coach Graham Arnold will be hoping to continue their development in the coming A-League season.
As expected a large contingent of Celtic fans were on hand for the match. The club's famous colours were everywhere, with expat Scots taking the rare opportunity to watch the club in Australia.

I have lost all of very llittle interest I had in pre-season games this year. The games are always flat and dulll in half full stadiums with no atmosphere and theres nothing especially this year as we dont have 5/6/7 new players of interest.

Good strike, but I can tell just from looking at that short clip that the Celtic players were nowhere near up to scratch. The long flight and lack of sleep, plus their lack of game time, will definitely have had an effect on their performance.

I expect we'll see the return of the old Celtic this coming Saturday against Perth Glory, once they've had time to rest etc.

The category of games being flat and dull can happen in all competitions and games no matter what, thats sports in general not just fitba.
Preseason games are very important and should be used accordingly for the start of the oncoming season, because if they are not, it can be negative!
    Just my opinion! :bbpd:

Lennon and Stokesy at each others throats! Trying times to be involved with Celtic FC.

I know its a friendly, and that its on the other side of the planet, but one of the things I am a lkittle concerned about is that there were a few fans that ran on after the game. Rightfully so, we condemned that idiot that attacked Lenny, as well as that chopstick that brushed past Dida. Hate to say it, but especially in the light of the attack on Lennon, the last people that should be condinging, much less doing pitch invasions are Celtic fans. The Australian authorities have smashed them with some big fines. Just something that we needed to be very cautious about.

As an Australian Celtic supporter I was so embarrassed to see those pitch invaders, especially after the carry on with Lennon and that supporter away to Hearts last season as Taz said. Not a good look for our supporters and it makes me angry that there were people there on the night saying it's all just a bit of fun. Despite these idiot supporters and the bad result it was a fantastic night for us Australian supporters, the atmosphere at the Celtic end was brilliant. Words can't describe how jealous I am of all of you who are able to attend games regularly during the season.

Hopefully this result gives Lennon and the rest of the squad a wake up call to the fact these Aussie teams aren't going to be walkovers.

Hi Stobes,i agree with you about these clowns trying to get on the pitch, but think you will agree that some of the tackles to bring them down were pretty good?Anyway had a great day on Sat(except the result and the performance)the Huddle at the Opera house was good to be part of even if some tourists looked a bit confused!Cheers was good before and after the game, and the support at ANZ were brilliant.Wouldnt it be good if this could happen every year?:50:

Feel the frustration of you guys over there... For over 20 years I supported the Hoops, hoping that one day they would come to Australia, and since I've been over here, they have now been down under TWICE... :31:
