He is simply a terrific player, anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong. Did a great job for us when here. Ended up player of the year.

Would be amazing player for us in the team that Lennon has assembled. Doubt he will come though

It really is a fall from grace

    1997–1999 Wolverhampton Wanderers 73 (24) 1999–2000 Coventry City 31 (12) 2000–2001 Internazionale 6 (0) 2001 → Leeds United (loan) 18 (9) 2001–2002 Leeds United 28 (4) 2002–2008 Tottenham Hotspur 197 (80) 2008–2009 Liverpool 19 (5) 2009– Tottenham Hotspur 41 (11) 2010 → Celtic (loan) 16 (12) 2011 → West Ham United (loan) 9 (2)
He still has alot to offer and would take him in a heart beat but dont like these so called fans who still expect the high wages.

If Robbie Keane would accept a reasonable wage at Celtic then I would take him in a second. He's a terrific player and would become a key component of our team the moment he stepped on the park.

All this guff about not wanting him because of what he said when he signed for Liverpool is pretty pathetic tbh. Many Irish people support an EPL club but also have a soft spot for Celtic.

Look at this picture and tell me Robbie Keane didn't enjoy playing for Celtic..............

I think hes past his best and we would be better served spending what little money we have on a targetman. We need a strong team not individuals earning megabucks (£65000 a week) while the rest of the team are on no more than £25000.

Hes not past his best, people say that because he has reached 30. What attribute has he lost ? He was never the quickest anyway so he hasnt noticeably lost pace and you dont lose the knack for goals.
I admit he didnt have a great season but did he play more than two full games in a row ?

If he wasn't past his best then Blackburn would not be the only club interested in him for 4.5 million. I don't understand why so many people think he's so great, he was a decent player at his peak but nowhere near the best to wear the hoops. I would take Bellamy over him.

If they want 4.5 million, would've liked to see us sell Sammy & Murphy and go for him @ around 3.5- 4 mil, PROVIDED he was willing to take a wage cut. Sucks to see a guy many of us wanted for years finally in our price range, and doesn't look like the time is right.

I have a lot of respect for Sammy, and he is younger, but he's not consistent enough. We would get far more production out of Keano for a couple seasons.

Not going to happen though, and ok with that.

Keane will not take a 50% pay cut to play for us when he can go to Blackburn and still receive £65K a week.

Trappatoni doesnt seem to think he is past his best. Ask him how important he is on the International Stage. At 30, he is less than 2 years older than Jay Bothroyd.

Robbie Keane could play at the top level in the SPL for another 4 seasons easily. He has the advantage that he has never had any pace, so he is not going to lose any. With 200 goals in 500 games, he has had a full career with very few injuries of note.

If we could get him at a reasonable fee then it would be good business. The fact he isnt in great demand just now in the EPL means nothing. Robbie Keane will end up at an EPL club before the window shuts. The guy is class. He has proved that , and he gave us a glimpse of that when he was up here.

He'd be great here if he'd come, but he'd have to take lower wages. I doubt he'd do it.

Why are we concerning ourselves about wages? The club is well run, a good board and strong chairman. It should boil down to whether the board think they can afford him. I would rather debate the merits of whether he would add to our team.

If it came down to having one Robbie Keane or 4 gambles its a no brainer , surely?

When we come on here and talk about wages/ fees / values I cringe sometimes. That is the same attitude that the board takes, and what cost us 4 iar at Strachans last season, and a chance to nail their coffin shut. Throughout the seasons we have always had that mentality. Sometimes its been right, we wouldnt want to go down the route of the Orcs, but I am happy to trust the board and if they feel a player is right, then lets get him.

IMO he's past his best its nothing to do with age, he went to Liverpool for £19 million three years ago and hes not been the same since. It's weird also that he has moved about so much, Tottenham are the only club that he has really settled at properly.

Also IMO he was useless against the huns!

I think Celtic should buy players with resale value(like Damari), however our strikers lack experience so if we could get Keane for 4-5 m and around 30k wages we should do it. He would certainly contribute more than Ljunberg (who IMO didn't get fair chance). I would love it if Robbie scored for us in all competitons. He is still Irelands best striker.

So what is it then if its not his age? He captained Ireland to an away win against Macedonia few weeks ago, scored 2 goals and took his tally to 50. He has played the majority of his games at Tottenham and Wolves, with a few other clubs in between. I dont read much into that. Many strikers are the same.

Like I said, he has no pace to lose and will play for another few seasons no bother.
