For someone who says they are not too bummed about religion, you sure seem to have an bee in your bonnet about not enough 'non-catholics' as you say which are not being attracted.

Does it matter what religion support our team? Our club is open the way it is for people to join in support.

No point mate. Just a small minority of Celtic support on TC.....wouldn't give a fair reflection:50:

No we were not. We were set up to assist the poorest of the poor, who happened to be mainly Catholic. There has never been an exclusivity from us. Never. The club is not, has never been, and never will be Catholic. If it were to be, we would be as bad as the huns.

Unfortunately in Scotland people who are atheist still have a habit of thinking of themselves as from catholic or protestant backgrounds. They still define this by what their parents or grandparents were, what schools they were sent too etc. Political and nationalistic views are the real divide anyway. They do tend to split along the old religious divide and they already have shown the divide will survive even when the religion has gone. The real clash is IMO because part of the population bought into the republican and loyalist subcultures that hate each other. Its all over Irish-British political stuff. I personally feel that both republican and loyalist subcultures are far too full of backwards looking, grievance nursing, black and white simplistic analysis leading to mutual hatred and demonising. Those creeds are the problem IMO. At the very least they need to modernise and stop going on about the past, martyrs etc.

It's like a Catholic school. Which is set up for the Catholics of the area, and the majority of Catholics in the area will go there. That doesn't mean that only Catholics can go to the school, anyone can attend. Just like anyone of any religion can support Celtic.

No I actually dont care about religious denomination. Its more statistical facts than an opinion. We are an overwhelmingly catholic support in an overwhelmingly non-catholic country. That is simply a fact not an opinion. It easy to say 'open to all' etc but the only substantial group other than Scottish and Irish catholics likely to become supporters attending our games are Scottish protestants (which I am using as a proxy for people without an Irish catholic heritage identity).

That being the case then you have to ask if we are doing all we can to make ourselves not feel like a club whose songs and symbols are only attractive to a particular part of the population. All I would suggest is that the single biggest factor is ra songs. You can also add a lack of things for people with a totally Scottish identity to identify with. That doesnt mean removal of anything (other than ra songs) but maybe rather needs addition of things to attract the wider population.

To be honest, this is not an arguement from a practical point of view as our stadium couldnt deal with a massive increase. Its more of a point of principal that 'open to all' is lip service if we come across as a club focussed so much on one political/historical/heritage angle. I suspect a lot of our non-catholic fans are football-only guys like myself who got into the side as wee lads for football reasons before they really had a clue about the other stuff.

All this relgious pious talk imo should be kept for church or chapel or mosque or wherever it is applicable. Celtic park is for football its not a place for political rallies or statements ,the same way ibrox or tynecastle or falkirk stadium are no place for shows of loyalism, its football ffs

Its on the linke ourdaywillcome posted above. I remember Talk Celtic had some sort of poll too and it came in about 75% catholic too. Its not surprising given the general link between catholics and Irish heritage in Scotland and the sheer amount of songs and symbols that reflect it. 5% of our fans as protestants pretty well demonstrates how we appeal mainly for a specific section of the Scottish population.
