The current custodians of Celtic are a disgrace. Our Chairman is a hypocrite who used to support the IRA until he had a whiff of power. he then turned to being a war criminal therefore I will take no lessons from him.

I have yet to here Neil Lennon come out and tell his support not to support the Republican movement or ask them not to sing our Traditional songs. Maybe that because he is an Irish Republican. He would not wish the heart to be ripped out of our club anymore than any of us should.

Why do Irish Republicans in the 6 counties support Celtic? The answer is because we are an Irish Republican club.

We are a Scottish club founded for Irish immigrants. Yet you would think we were an Dublin club with a few Scottish supporters to read this thread.

Again, nobody is asking for the rebels to be axed, but lennon has explicitly asked for the ugly IRA crap that goes along with them to be shelved.

When has Lennon ever said he is an Irish Republican? "I don't talk about politics or religion" I believe he said recently.

Don't sully my club's name by tarring us all with the same brush when you sing your PIRA tripe.

.... only because the ignorant will associate the IRA with dissidents at this time? As I said earlier, the IRA are in Stormont just now!

But you're not. You're not supporting your team. You're supporting the IRA at your team's games.

Even in his autobiography, there is no real mention of politics.

However, I don’t think it really matters, nobody can claim the statement is actually unequivocal. The statement refers to ‘offensive chanting’ well… what’s offensive to one might not be to another.

I assume he is referring to overt ‘PIRA’ chanting, rather than traditional ballads.

I am making a sweeping assumption that a Catholic, Irish, Celtic supporting boy from Lurgan might be an Irish Republican!!

I for one don't give a * about the IRA or it's history and I'm sure that there are a helluva lot like me in the stadium. It's not good old nostalgia anymore it's offensive to other fans around you. I'm not interested in being educated as to what they're all about end of. I go to football watch a game and enjoy my day out. The club will be brought down by people who have no wish to change or go forward.

Ha, not this old chestnut again.

I think you know it is unfeasible for one fan to challenge a group of *-up idiots singing about the IRA. What is the implication here, that I should chance my arm and see if I get my head kicked in.

It shouldn't take fighting in the stands to sort out deep-rooted issues at a football club.

I'd have you stop singing the pro-IRA addons, yeah.

Because that has and will clearly work, just look at this thread

Look, I dont agree there is any requirement for any IRA chant such as we heard at swinecastle. This is obviously a defensive mechanism to fight back at certain events and is extremely provocative. Any song which mentions the IRA should not automatically be banned or attacked however.
