There is a difference between offensive and illegal! Why in a week that we should all be standing united are so many out to try to take shots at their own? It's disgraceful.

Show me a single example of me saying we sing sectarian songs please? I have said on countless occasions there is a discrepancy between the sectarian bile they churn out and the tasteless political stuff we stick to. However, this thread is about being tarred with the same brush, and I feel that we set ourselves up for being lumped in together with them when we sing tasteless songs about the IRA.

I, along with many many others, think it is wholly distasteful and offensive to sing songs glorifying an organisation that has murdered countless innocents. I think you dishonour their memory by comparing the glorification of their slaughter in prose with the antagonising of an archaic organisation like the SFA.

Well put mate. I'm shocked to see how many fellow Celts can't see the difference between political, sectarian and racist songs.

Celtic and Huns songs are not on the same level.

Celtic Songs -> political -> legal -> kinda like most national anthems

Huns Songs -> SECTARIAN, RACIST -> illegal

Again, at the risk of repetition, I can't see anyone equating our songbook to being on a par with theirs.

Most are simply saying, we could leave behind our association with the scum forever if they toned down the distasteful stuff. Like you say, we are better than them. Lets show the world that.

Fair enough I read a comment I thoght you had written about us being targetted by FARE and responded.

My main point still stands though, why do you care what people who already hate us think or say? Do you seriously think that if we stopped singing IRA songs then we wouldn't have any trouble in Scotland, if so then you are delusional, the Huns hate us because of what we are, not because we sing about it. The problem lies at their door not ours.

And as far as the PIRA singing went, that is the first time it has been given an airing in a LONG time, and was done as an act of defiance, it's absoluetly scandalous that people like you see any chance to get tore into the Celtic support who were fantastic on Wednesday night. If you hate these songs so much why don't you challenge someone who is singing them next time you are at an away game? There were plenty of things to be angry about on Wednesday evening, the Celtic travelling support were not one of them.

As for the FTSFA comparison, it was made as a reference to the fact that you can't just cut out songs because people are offended, where would you draw the line? Can we call Aberdeen sheep shaggers? What about the word Hun, is that out of order too?

It's just over the years people have made posts saying we were as bad as them. Personally I don't see why everyone wants to have a holier than thou or nearly perfect reputation. Certain scottish newspapers will always find something negative to say about our club or fans.

We don't win anything if we got the cleanest and friendliest fans. football is still a rough business, especially off the park. sometimes I have to chuckle when people get annoyed and upset because some guys shout PIRA. I have been to quite a few non celtic games and you usually hear far worse things there. And I really mean sick and primitive stuff.

Having said, I can live with IRA chants. Because certain teams have fans who assault stewards, police and raid wee stadiums and stores near them.

I'm most certainly not ignorant to history. The real ignorance here is fans that will continue to blindly damage the club's reputation by peddling their political ideals at football matches via the glorification of terrorists.

I just think alot of people seem either to try and eradicate or just dismiss alot of the history this club and its supporters have been through. Alot of this is done i think due to a holier than thou attitude, which we dont need to have everyone else knows we are better than the huns anyway :icon_mrgreen:

I don't get why people want us to change what we are as a fanbase so the press dont moan. * the press, theyll just make stuff up then, such as coughing during silences etc. Sing what you want so long as it isnt sectarian and racist - therefore sing the rebels all you like.

Seems some people are missing the point , the greater public like it or lump it find some songs we sing unacceptable , and will continue to kick up a fuss until action is taken by either the sfa or uefa , its no use saying F them and continuing to sing the songs action must be taken now to stop them being sung

I think it is you who is missing the point to be honest, the songs we sing (inc PI PI PIRA from the other night) are not racist, sectarian or illegal, and thus they cannot be banned, whether the public at large (who cares what they think of us, I think the last 100 years have given us plenty of evidence what the general opinion of us is anyway) think they are 'unacceptable' or not. If you don't like the songs, don't join in, but the entire away support sing these songs, so it is you who is in the minority, trying to push your moral high ground nonsense onto them. Give it a rest.

The entire away support of a few thousand does not equal a majority, for the record.

you lot seriously think thats why they dont want us down there? * off.

they do not want us there cos they know themselves it probably wouldnt take either us or them long to win the epl and thats something they just could not handle. a scottish club being champions of england! hahah * that would hurt them big time! this * with the songs and gash is a just an excuse to keep us away ffs.why did they let the 3 welsh teams in? easy! are they ever going to win or do anything serious in the epl? i dont think so tbh (no offence there lads).

What does that matter?Celtic have a fan base in the millions...and we are all allowed to voice our opinion. If the songs were in support of NL...does this mean we presume he is a supporter of the IRA.Why not just stick to pro NL chants?
