The current board will crawl over broken glass to get out of this league and that is their public stance.

A stance I have been behind since day one, the league and the country stifles us.

Lets resign, and play friendlies every week against invited guests. They could send "b" teams if they are involved in leagues around Europe. Barca, St Pauli, Ath Bilbao, Hibs and anyone who is sympathetic to our cause. We have made hundreds of friends over the years......is it getting late?

Hear hear. Another thought here. I'm season ticket holder who's starting to feel a little afraid of what's going on here. I'm a Celtic Supporting Protestant who doesn't have any political allegiences to any particular group (other than voting snp ) and I'm afraid that this carry on will create a Protestant/Catholic divide as was the case in NI. I'm not niave as to think that there are sections of our society who don't wish it to be so but as you have said they really are in the minority. All of this talk really makes me fearful. I don't think songs of a political or sectarian nature belong in the football ground :87:

What I think is priceless is the tims who think its terrible or shocking that singing these songs makes people angry in the UK. Also, they think its just a Scottish problem. I think they will find no area in the UK is going to be a happy place to sing anti-British songs or songs that take sides against Britain. Also, English football has far more hooligans and they will seize on this big time. Why cant these tims accept that the only place you can express these sympathies in front of random members of the general public is Ireland itself. Most of them are about wars fighting the British. You dont sing songs about fighting the British to the British without fanning flames of hate. Political stuff us our contribution to fanning the flames of misunderstanding and hatred. Rangers do it by blind religious and ethnic hate but those among us who indulge in the singing of anti-British political songs etc in front of a grossly innapropriate audience (away fans in Scotland) are responsible for adding petrol to the flames. They certainly are not helping matters. I suggest a zero tolerance (I mean the clubs fined/docked points) to any substantial instances of religious/ethnic hatred AND songs reffering to political/historical violence or violent groups that clearly viciously divide the people of Scotland. If people desert then fck them. I would rather get back to something a bit more wholesome focussed on the sport instead of clubs as peoples proxys for their political/historical views.

Getting out of the league would make no difference at all. If anything, I think the scum who send * like this to Lenny would step up their campaign through spite and envy.

We've got to fight these * at every turn. We've got to expose them for the racist, hateful scumbags that they are, by being exemplary in every way. We need to show our support for Lenny at every opportunity, and persevere through this most disturbing of times.

    Couldn't disagree more!

Everyone has the right to sing songs or speak their dissent to any political matter. Should everyone blindly accept authority without questioning morals and ethics? Will we have a military junta in charge just to make sure that dissenters are punished.

Any political viewpoint should be allowed to be discussed, as long as it does not incite violence against any individual or group. If you choose to be offended by a viewpoint - then so be it. Vent your disapproval in a manner you are content with. Sing of it if you will.

    It's called a free society.

A life is more valuable and important than any mickey mouse competition. No-one would blame Lennon for walking away now. It is yet another attack on Celtic Football Club and it's heritage and history.

It IS time for us to get out of Scotland - enough is enough. The Celtic Board should refuse to play Sunday's game and tell the SPL to stick their League.

Reid and the Board MUST speak up, and say we're leaving this bigoted wee country, once and for all.

    Outrageous and criminal.

The Premier League seems a long way away tbh. However, sooner or later there will be a European superleague imo. And when it does happen, there will be almost certainly be strong pressure on the organisers to include teams from the smaller countries.

So they will be actively looking for big teams from small countries: teams from wee leagues but with a worldwide fanbase. Now that is pretty much us down to a T. We can't do much at the moment, except position ourselves so that when it does happen we are top of the list...

And we get back to the songbook  We may well be overlooked by the European bigwigs re. Rangers sectarian singing and the west of scotland problem  What happens here might not be countenanced in Europe :87:

A fair point, but wouldn't that be denying our history a little?

I'm 42, I used to go to a fair few matches when I was younger. I learnt the rebel songs through the matches & from asking my dad.

My dad used to go to every match when he was a kid. He sang rebel songs then. His dad did too.

At least a third (probably more) of our history has included singing songs about the struggle to free Ireland of British occupation. Do you really think that can be forced out of our club? Should it be?

To quote Calgacus (via Tacitus' reporting of his speech to the rebel Caladonian army fighting against the Roman occupations)..

"To robbery, slaughter, plunder, they give the lying name of empire; they make a solitude and call it peace"

IMO we have more chance of educating the English about our songs than stopping them being sung. I for one do not feel comfortable with the idea that we should sell out to the ignorant. We should help the blind to see.

I'd rather get outta here today than tomorrow, but the options are extremely limited. like it or not, at the moment we don't have a choice.
