    from imdb:

[Maximus stands up, clenching an arrow head in his right hand]
Commodus: Your fame is well deserved, Spaniard. I don't think there's ever been a gladiator to match you. As for this young man, he insists you are Hector reborn. Or was it Hercules? Why doesn't the hero reveal himself and tell us all your real name? You do have a name.
    Maximus: My name is Gladiator.
    [turns away from Commodus]
Commodus: How dare you show your back to me! Slave, you will remove your helmet and tell me your name.
Maximus: [removes helmet and turns around to face Commodus] My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
    [Commodus trembles in disbelief]
    Quintus: Arms!
[Praetorians point their spears at the gladiators while the Collosseum crowd chants for them to live. Commodus shakes his head and motions the crowd for silence. He then raises his fist and reluctantly gives the thumbs-up signal]

    hard to choose:

General Hummel: Major Anderson, if you have any concern for the lives of your men, you will order them to safety their weapons and place them on the deck.
Agent Paxton: This is not happening...
Commander Anderson: Sir, we know why you're out here. * knows, I agree with you. But like you, I swore to defend this country against all enemies, foreign, sir... and domestic. General, we've spilled the same blood in the same mud. And you know * * well I can't give that order.
    Navy SEAL: We're dead!
General Hummel: Your unit is covered from an elevated position, Commander. I'm not gonna ask you again. Don't do anything stupid. No-one has to die here.
Commander Anderson: [raising his voice] You men following the General: you're under oath as United States Marines, have you forgotten that? We all have shipmates we remember, some of them were * on and * on by the Pentagon. But that doesn't give you the right to mutiny!
General Hummel: You call it what you want! You're down there, we're up here! You walked into the wrong * room, Commander!

What you lookin' at? You all a bunch of f#ckin' *. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your f#ckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." So... what that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie. Me, I don't have that problem. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say good night to the bad guy! Come on. The last time you gonna see a bad guy like this again, let me tell you. Come on. Make way for the bad guy. There's a bad guy comin' through! Better get outta his way!

Well LOTR even though its technically book dialogue has the best speech dialogues in movies. It was tough for me to limit it to two.

I didnt think the Independence Day one was the worse I heard. I've heard much worse.

I bet that poll came about when people started to really pick at everything in a film. (i.e. Everything after the Matrix)

yeah that was one of the few scenes that made me feel like that. Another scene would be in Band of Brothers when the old soldiers are talking at the end of the episodes sometimes its touching.

I totally agree, Band of Brothers was amazing. I've got it on boxset and the interviews with the old soldiers were just heartwrenching. Kind of on that subject, I've been to a few war cemeteries in France and they leave you completely drained....the number of graves is staggering and makes you feel very small in the scheme of things. Very emotional.

I personally like the quote from Shakespeare's "From this day to the ending of the world we in it shall be remembered. We lucky few, we band of brothers. For he who today sheds his blood with me shall be my brother."

The thing the surrendering German officer said to his men. And they translated it for the other officers in Easy.
