As much as Ki has great tecnical ability and is a good player I feel we were a better team with Ledley and Kayal as the central pairing last season in midfield. For me this year I have been greatly impressed with Wanyama also. If everyone was fit and available Ki would not make my starting lineup. A really quality player to have in reserve though.

Agree, good post, Ki performs better playing a DLP role in front on the defence, building play from the back, he is being asked to play much further forward and at times on the wing where he is not that great but still does an ok job. We were outclassed at times from players who cost an absolute fortune. Our guys are only 22-23 playing against Diego who is a Brazilian International at the age of 26. They should be playing against this quality of opposition and at times will be beaten but thats the only way the likes of Ki, Kayal, Wanyama and ledley will improve is if they test themselves against better players.

No shame in being worse to players who are simply older and better. We gave athletico a good game and probably deserved a draw. The team are learning in europe, mistakes will be made by most of the players. As i said before who would have thought we would be in with a shout of qualifying going into the last game. We should stop this undue criticism on our young players.

For me he does not get a place in our strongest midfield.

    Forrest Kayal Wanyama Ledley

Here's a re-jigged formation for Europe, to accomodate Ki in a more defensive role. Thoughts...

    -----------------------Forster------------------

    Matthews-------Wanyama----Mulgrew-----Izaguirre

    ----------------Kayal---------Ki---------------

    Forrest---------------Ledley--------------Samaras

    --------------------Stokes/Hooper--------------

This isn't the formation I'd go with in the SPL, but more so for a game against the likes of Atletico. I agree that Ki is better building from the back. This means playing Joe a bit further forward, but positionally he's far better than Ki. He's also decent in the air and rarely wastes a pass despite a lack of pace (which Ki and Commons don't have either). Think Stokes and Hooper would benefit from a more attack minded Joe Ledley, and the rest of the team from a more defensive Ki?

I started to try to avoid the threads about Ki since someday,

anyway, I missed the match 'cos it broadcasted at dawn here and I had to sleep in order to prepare some tests in the morning. Just saw the highlights and His freekick was so unlucky, I think. He delivered some good cornor kicks, also. I have to watch the full game video in my free time, but,
He has had a very tough time recently, so I think it might take a little more time to get back his 100% condition. Some might think that is just an excuse but I feel it's not excuse, I think it's somewhat natural because the players are not machines and need some time to be recovered perfectly. And, he will be back at his best, again soon.

But also, I have to admit that..when it comes to Ki, My mind becomes..probably...just like parents' hearts. :redface1:;; (yeah, I'm a single person and don't have a child but so to speak..;;)

And..Just want to say thanks to some of the great posts here, 'cos they were saying what I can't express well due to my not fluent English and the fact that I have the same nationality with Ki. I do know I should not take this personally(And I actually do not take it personally, I think) but, that is just what I feel so...

Highlighted part is untrue, he plays as a deep playmaker for South Korea and stretches teams with his range of passing, I cant believe the flack he gets from our own support when he is an extremely talented YOUNG player who can progress our team and eventually get us a good fee, chin up.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has made a personal check on midfield target Ki Sung-Yeung, according to reports.

The Scottish Sun claims 'King Kenny' was in the stands to watch the Bhoys' last home clash, with Dalglish joined by a number of Barclays Premier League scouts taking in the action.

Whilst Gary Hooper and Beram Kayal are said to be interesting other clubs, it's the South Korean international who is thought to have come to the attention of the Liverpool boss.

Dalglish was linked with a move for the player in the summer, with the club's main sponsor, Standard Chartered, eager for the Reds to invest in a high-quality Asian player who can increase the club's marketability in the far East.

Liverpool have already made moves to this extent by inviting Chinese trialists to Anfield, but Sung-Yeung would undoubtedly add more to the Merseysiders in the immediate future at least.

The former Seoul starlet has proven his ability to adapt in the SPL, and is now being lined-up as a possible addition south of the border.

Lucas Leiva's injury has also increased the need for another central midfielder at Liverpool, with the 22-year-old now amongst a host of players on the club's January radar.

Yann M'Vila, Seydou Keita and Jadson have also been linked with 2012 moves to the club, and Dalglish will be working closely alongside Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli to decide on which players to try and bring in at the next opportunity.

Lennon has already said he's near to being a £10m player. Don't think we'll see any more than that!

£8m would be acceptable, IMO and would be good business - although if we can hold out for more, then all the better!!!

    Hail Hail

Would love to see the lad move on to fans that would maybe apprecaite his talents without wanting to punt him every week.

Ki's long passing is fantastic. He displays it often enough with South Korea. The only players that play long passes in our team is the two centre backs. Because you don't see Ki do it for Celtic doesn't mean he can't.

I would seriously LOL if we got anything like £8 million for Ki.

£2 million more than Stan Petrov? It would be the sale of the decade.

It would be robbery of the highest order.

I'd carry him down to Merseyside, or wherever, if he was getting punted for anywhere near that amount.

Sick of hearing nonsense like this. The vast majority of fans do appreciate his talents. It's a football forum. If you think we're unique in having some fans who rate a player and some who want rid, you're deluded.

I don't anyone who wants to punt him.he is a good squad player that we need with all the injuries we get.i think most people are just frustrated cos like sammy we know they have great ability but they tend to go missing in tough games

How long ago did Petrov leave though, the market has continued to inflate since then, Ki's also much younger and clubs will pay a bit extra for a young player with his sort of potential.

People that would let arguably our most technically gifted player leave for peanuts are off their head imo, we have to keep players like him if we want to compete at a higher level and progress as a team, a squad full of hammer throwers might suit the spl better but we'd be even worse off in europe than we are now.

i cannot believe how fickle some are.

at times he has a good game and a thread is opend and its almost like a celtic legend thread, he has an off spell and people are wanting to sell him.

weathr u rate him at 8 mill or 2 is a different matter, but Ki is a vital part of our squad. we havent got better on the bench and we cannot afford to buy better!

Continually astonished at how lowly some people rate Ki. This interest from elite clubs should be a clue to the guys talent.
