I believed him. He said no one had been offered the job and that we were talking to a number of candidates as part of our hiring procedure. It seems he was lying.

Although I'm glad we didn't get Roy Keane, he was definitely above Ronny Deila on our shortlist in my opinion, as was Larsson, who has since said he turned down the chance to manage us. I think Deila in the end, was the only person prepared to come here and work on the budget the board will have set for him. Very little as we now know.

Yes, he did. He explicitly said that no one had been offered the job and that we were still in the middle of our hiring process and talking to a number of candidates.

Well, unless my memory is playing tricks on me (entirely possible). Anyone have a link to the video of his statement?

They had already picked the man who would be my assistant and they were insisting on him.

This is worrying, it's just odd. What's the big deal about Collins?

I think in the light of Keane's claim, it's pretty certain that Keane was ahead of Deila in the shortlist and seems entirely likely that Larsson was too (except he's too classy to come out and say so).

I wonder who the assistant was that Roy Keane says he was told was non-negotiable. Collins? Maybe even Deila?

Larsson has been quoted saying "Yes, I declined the Celtic job this summer"

Deila was the only person prepared to take the job in my opinion, and for me, he has been given a job that is too big for him sadly. Something which can't be blamed on him, if it's too big, then it's the people that appointed him who the blame lies with.

That's the worrying thing for me.

Larsson pretty much had the job, then it was Keane. Their has to be a reason both rejected? Other than they both didn't fancy it.

I actually think this is a pretty smart way of working, in managerial terms at least.

That's what I was wondering. After Deila's assistant said that he (Deila) was originally going for the assistant's job.

Lenny said he was getting the assistants job as well.

Rolling contract wouldn't be the problem. Worked for O Neill, Strachan and Lenny. I dare say there were more restraints than this!

Again Larsson's too classy to say but Keane is pretty clear: not happy with the figure he was quoted to spend on players, had his assistant picked for him, contract he was offered and way negotiations were conducted didn't make him feel wanted. My guess is that Larsson's reasons will have been along similar lines.

OK, two independent sources with no history of lying: that settles it for me, Deila was originally to be assistant.

    Wow. :eek1:

A job that's too big for him? Possibly. A job he wasn't ready for? In hindsight, yes. If it's the latter, that doesn't mean he can't come good, though.

At least Keane has his morals and stuck by them. I think the whole sitaution reflects badly on the running of the club by the board.

A think a 12 month contract is an intelligent move when dealing with relatively uknown entities, but it doesnt display a whole lot of support and conviction from the powers that be. How can the board expect us, the fans, to buy into the "project", if they didnt?

Frankly, I don't really care who said what, or who allegedly lied about what. However it happened, Keane didn't get the job, and I remain delighted with that.

Handle things so badly that a Celtic fan walked away from the manager's job having just done 3iar and with no new job lined up, then carry out the search for a new manager so poorly that the only person in the shortlist willing to take the job was the guy originally slated for the assistant's job and then finally lie to the fans about the whole thing. * yes, of course it reflects badly on us as a club!

    I'm pretty stunned here.
