JOHN REID

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by JC Anton, Mar 6, 2011.

  1. So no admission that he won the title in his first year than when you suggested otherwise?

His (the boards) appointment of Lennon has proved to be inspired. Mowbray wasn't up the job but this season we are at times looking slick, dynamic and brimming with confidence due to a raft of signings rubber stamped by the board.

If you think this season is by any stretch of the imagination worse than last you are on drugs.

  2. The * death doctors were just doing their job then?.What a * argument.Trying to get people to support an illegal war is not just doing your job,it's criminal. He also spent personnal time with a war criminal in the 90's,responsible for the deaths of thousands. Then he spits in the face of our supporters who dare to stand up against the poppy being forced on us.And has the cheek to tell us to leave politics at the door.* him.

  3. We all know why Reid got the gig at Celtic. It was Dermot Desmond's way of gaining influence within Whitehall by having an insider in his employment. I personally agree with Kennybhoy on this one. The man was part of a group that committed a war crime and he should be held to account.
But in the situation regarding Lenny, I want to see what Dr Reid's really made of. I don't buy this myth that he was a shrewd political operator; the man had about 12 jobs in Government during New Labours (Diet Tories) time in power. Sounds like a guy that couldn't perform in any of these posts. I await to see how he performs over the coming days.

  4. Were a Scottish team, in a Scottish league what makes us a British club, although lots of you dont want or understand that its what we are. The poppy is a remembrance symbol of the the servicemen of Britain past, present and future. Again if you dont like it tough, show your respect to them as the huge majority or should i say all Celtic fans do to the irish fallen heroes respect goes 2 ways you wouldn't like it if the shoe was on the other foot.

  5. The Poppy incident is a strange one, on one hand the soldiers that died for our country , did so in order that the very people who condemned the poppy at Celtic Park were able to do so. So even though it was against them, in a roundabout way it did symbolise that what they died for wasnt in vain - Democracy and Free Speech.

I however am for supporting our troops.

Regarding John Reid, I have yet to see this Snarling Political Bulldog. If he comes out all guns blazing and rips the "political" * who have tarred us with the huns and who are STILL silent on Neils death threats, the Rangers "Fans" and the actual facts that surrounded the last Celtic v Rangers game, a new one, then I will have a little respect for him.

I cant forgive his shameful involvement in the murder of innocents in the Iraq War though

  6. Actually that would make us a Scottish club imo.If the poppy was only to remember those who died in WW2 I'd have no problem, however it is not and that is my,and alot of other peoples, problem.
John Reid tells us to leave politics at the door,he should practise what he preaches.
This argument has been done to death,it's not one I particularly want to get into again.

  7. I have no problem with Reid at all. I don't agree with his part in an unjustified war but the same could be said with all the soldiers who got sent out. They were all doing a job nothing more nothing less.

Reid has Celtic's interests at heart and that's all that matters to me. We are being dragged into political issues tomorrow. Nobody yet knows what the outcome of that will be. If we ever need someone to stand up for us in a political battle then there are few in a better position than Reid to be on our side. In the political world there are not many who would cross swords with him.Make no mistake that in the political world he's a powerful man.

Imo opinion Celtic are in the best position in a long time to tackle the issues surrounding our club. Things are turning into a mini political and religious war (religious issues from bitter rankers fans). With Lawell and Reid tackling things head on along with Paul McBride the so called "establishment" have reason to worry.

hes a political heavyweight and hes on our side...nuff said? cant think of anyone better to have standing up for the celtic cause

  8. As far as I'm aware, he didn't murder anyone in Iraq.

  9. He hasnt stood up for very much yet. Lawell seems to be the one in the firing line. The death threats and vile treatment of our manager has been going on for some time.

What is he gonna do about it? I want to see this "heavyweight" start earning his wage at our club.

  10. Yeah , not directly, your right, but he has the blood of , probably millions on his hands, along with the others. Dont want to go over this again. Not at this time.

Lets argue in a few weeks or whenever this * that is happening to our manager passes.

  11. Wasn't Reid one of the politicians to to give the green light for the war in Iraq? Imo, those who give the orders have blood on thier hands, just as those who do the killing in combat (if you can call it that.)
Ried was known to be a major part in the whole of the invasion, justifiable or not certain opinions that's not the point here. But his involvement alone is enough for certain supporters to not like the guy. And imo, his involvem,nt at Celtic is mixed for me. I know he has the best interest of the club at heart. But the guy can embarras himself adn our club by some publicly made statements.
I personally don't care much for the man

  12. I respect every single British soldier that has died for their country and would never try to shame that, i don't care what field of war they died in, for me it doesn't matter whether the war was just or not, the poppy is a sign of respect, if decent people can't respect common decency and set aside these behaviors then we have far bigger problems than this Old Firm shame thats going on.

Apart from that i fully expect Reid to defend our corner expertly and tell those * to shove it where the sun don't shine.

  13. That is not entirely true millions of Iraqis havent died, the largest percentage of people that have died by Allied forces are Al Qaeda insurgents from Iran, Pakistan, Jordan and Syria. So not Iraqis, the other part is Iraq is now starting to stabilize with a stable democracy at the helm, their economic growth is steadily rising, tensions between Sunni and Shiites are calming and they no longer have a genocidal dictator in charge.

Sorry for going off topic but i felt that facts needed to be spoken in defense of both John Reid and the British army.

  14. Its probably how these things work though. They are scum in their own countries for starting wars but in 100 years there will be Iraquis talking of the great John Reid who pushed for war in Iraq to sort out their country and be glad they werent alive in the days when only womens eyes could be seen and youd be stoned to death for farting in the street.

  15. You certainly can, if that job involved a whole load of civilians being bombed.

What if we got Heinrich Himmler in? You wouldn't honestly be saying "Can't judge a man for doing his job" - and praising the efficiency of his death camps?

Or what about the old, "Well it's what he does for Celtic that counts" ?

No, I don't buy this at all. It's just like the Rangers Media crowd all saying how Diouf was the lowest of the low - then Rangers sign him and suddenly they're all fawning over him. The difference being that what Reid was complicit in was far, far worse than anything Diouf will ever do in his life.

I don't care what team he supports, he was an apologist for mass murder.

  16. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, when the announced invasion of Iraq was made I don't recall many members of British society up in arms about it. Those who criticise Dr. Reid, again in hindsight, what did you do at the time the plan was announced ? Did you march on Downing St or did you accept the popular belief at the time that it was the right thing to do. ? We are all responsible for any wrongs that came about from that decision by our complicity at that time.

  17. I think reid is lawells ace in the hole so to speak, holding him back until he can be most effective, and I hope that he like the Reid in Only an Excuse

  18. I think for the time being we should focus on him stopping the press and the bigots attacking our club and manager.
