I support scotland because i was born here and live here. My dads side of the family are scottish and have been so as far back as the family tree can be traced. My mums side came over from ireland in the 1900's to work in the clydebank shipyards.

So i have Irish roots but i support scotland

Regardless of roots, heritage etc. We can all agree that Celtic are a Scottish Club, playing in Scotland. Doesnt matter what national team you decide to support.

    Yes? Good.

I'm not sure I would agree with that tbh, I'm more inclined to agree with Billy McNeill on this one - "An Irish club playing in Scotland".

At the end of the day, folk are welcome to think whatever they want in regards to us being an Irish or a Scottish club, it doesn't really matter in the grand old scheme of things, we're all backing the same team at the end of the day :celt_2:

This is genuinely the best answer anyone can give, the thread should just have been closed after this. What a strange question, the real question is why Scottish fans don't support Scotland but that's been done to death as well.

I'm not a big flag waver.
But celtic's colours are green, White & gold.
You won't see many Saltires flying around Celtic park, just as you won't see many st.georges flags flying around old Trafford.

Our main rivals colours are blue, but you may see the odd green & white saltire flying around Celtic park.
    Simple really!

Exactly. Saltire is blue, which pretty much rules it out at Celtic Park. The green saltire though is one of the more popular flags you see and it's personally my favourite.

First of all I believe celtic are a scottish club. Formed in Scotland, play in Scotland etc. However I think some people are a bit naieve when it comes to the importance of Celtic's Irish roots. The club was founded by Irish men for the mainly poor Irish community of the east end of Glasgow but the club has always welcomed players of various creeds and nationalities. Without these men or the support of the local community, the club we all love may never be formed. Celtic should never underestimate the importance of its Irish roots and the role many Irish people have played in making the club succesfull over the years.

The great thing about Celtic is everyone is welcomed at the club. There are som many different nationalities and creeds that support the club and thats what makes us different. I think this arguement about celtic being a scottish or Irish club is a bit stupid. We should embrace the great diversity at celtic and not be caught up in some pointless debate

    What's your point.....?

It's not about where you stand in all of this, Celtic were never brought into existence to divide. Far from it!

Total car crash of a thread.

I was born in Scotland and am Scottish. Have lived in Ireland sine I was ten years old though but would still support Scotland over Ireland every day of the week.

Fair enough, it's doesn't really matter does it ?
I've always said green, white n gold.
I'm not being ignorant, i suppose it represents different things to some folks.
I'm sure open minded folks are what the club would like to represent.

I'm Scottish through and through always will be no doubts. I'm from a mixed marrage Catholic Father & Protestant Mother I have been told of some link with ireland but in the distant past approx 5 generations. All of my cousins are protestant never had any problems and are some of the best people you would ever meet but I'm still a fervant scottish Celtic fan and proud to support Scotland as a team. I was never pushed or told how I should be when I was a kid my parents let me make up my own mind and know in my heart that I made the correct choice.

I was born in bellshill to an irish mother and scottish father of irish descent. I have an Irish passport and am proud of my irish roots but I still support Scotland and always will. Obviously I like to see Eire playing well also but Scotland is my country of birth.

Since I now live in Co. Cork I travelled up to Dublin the other week for the
Scotland v NI game and it was class being in there with the tartan army
who hate all things british just as much as we do.

I stay in Ireland; my children are Irish as to my wife.

I was born in Scotland and stayed there for the first 30 years of my life. Supported Celtic and have travelled to probably every away ground there is over that period.

I have to say though, the minute the flower of Scotland gets played, the shivers run up and down my neck.

The wife slag’s me all the time as she can not understand how I can hate Rangers the way I do, yet when it comes to them playing for Scotland, my whole outlook changes.

I am patriotic to my country, just like any one should be, we all need a sense of belonging do we not.
