I assume it was about getting more people in, but I am wondering if anybody who remembers it can remember what the thoughts on that were?

Moving a Euro match away from parkhead today would create a backlash I couldn't imagine, and I am wondering how that went down in the 70s?

The only reason for the move was to accommodate another 60000 people.
Don't remember anybody being against the idea.

    simply down to ticket demand
dont recall anybody objecting to it
i think that in the days before multimedia, most people were in the opinion that as many as possible should witness this great contest
not even sure it was shown on live tv

Leeds Utd got 3000 tickets for Hampden and sent back 1500 unsold.

Off topic but was it when we were away to Leeds when we wore the orange socks?

Hampden was used to accomodate bigger crowd. Wasn't unusual in those days of the late 60's and early 70's. We played there for Leeds game, Racing in World Club Championship and also against Ajax in the European Cup. It will seem incredible to some folk we also used it occasionally for pre-season friendlies such was the demand to see those games too. I remember seeing Spurs there and a few years later Manchester City

There was a newspaper report days after the game that a numbers of turnstile operators had made a small fortune taking money from punters doubling up.
    Who knows..................

Whatever the official attendence was, add 20000 for those who got in without tickets.

In these days nobody under the age of 15 rarely paid in and got a "lift over" so the attendance was probably nearer 200,000.

Remember a European game against Ajax around 1973.

We were at Hampden so much during this time it most have been just like a home game!

Before my time but remember my Dad always getting angry when the English media used to bang on about the great Leeds team of the 70s when we beat them home and away!!:shamrock:

That atmosphere must have been undescribable... that would have been something else.

Mind blowing the crowds you hear of in that period. Must have been a health and safety nightmare 145,000 terracing. Can you imagine a crowd nearly 3 times the average CP one of recent years. I can only remember the tail end of that Leeds team but they were amazing and had some great Scottish players.
