I was thinking the other day about how some football clubs "play stupid" about values of their players and by doing that get a lot more than they are actually worth.

Look at Lyon for example. They sold Benzema for 35-40M ; Essien 25M ; Diarra 25M.

Or Newcastle with the fee they got for Carrol. Or Palermo with the silly fee they are looking for Pastore.

Do you think we can also play a little dumb and get better money when selling our stars (i.e. aiden in the summer)?

I know mate its mad, but alot of people do that so they hope to keep their player unless a crazy price comes in. We should start doing it instead of people thinking that the SPL is easy for players.

The likes of Lyon have the money to turn down bids of 10m+, we sadly don't.

Even though we're a bigger club than Lyon.

Why havnt we got the money, i thought we have 2 billionaire as share holders at our disposal in dermot desmond and denis obrien who is supposed to be worth double to what dermot has, I even heard the other day that we have a 3rd billionaire but i dont know if thats true.

We shouldnt be selling our best players for the so called wonderful bid of £10 million, as soon as a decent decent player comes to scotland and is a superb player, these news papers etc start shouting 10 mill, its just not us its the hunns as well, its as if thats what we want is a 10 million bid then we will byte your hand off, it should change imo we have got a couple of crackers lennon has purchased at our disposal right now, and we should not let them go for 10 million, in this day and age the epl seem to be paying whoppping prices, not just them la liga is also doing it, is andy carrol is worth 35 million ???

If any bids come in for our best players i think lennon will reject it, even at 10 million a think he knows what he,s doing.

I agree. Come May we should start marketing D. Murph as the best striker in Britain just to get our money back!

Porto and Ajax are good at it as well.

This is the level we are aiming for, that tier just below the massive clubs (monetary wise) spot or develop the talent, sell it on at a massive profit and then re-invest again. It's the only way we'll reach the next level.

Yeah they are brilliant at it in the Eredivisie and just look at Benfica getting 24 million for David Luiz. Even Werder Bremen do it with Klose, Diego and Ozil being recent examples of players whose reputations have been built up to become very saleable assets.

Our problem comes where we talk down a player as gash and then sell them which isnt in our best interests. Big Mick for example was being talked about as a 4 or 5 million player but we ended up letting him go for peanuts thanks to Mowbray. McDonald is another who scored tons for us but left on the cheap.

The Huns seem to have cottoned on when you see the likes of Cuellar and Hutton going for huge sums and McGregor and Bougherra being linked with massive moves.

What we need to do is refuse first clubs bid for any of our players and wait until more than one club is interested. This is the only way we will get decent money for our better players.

Definitely, we can try and be stubborn when it comes to selling our best players. Although I doubt we'll be selling anyone for over £15m any time soon.

See the one that shows to me.

    Bebe

He was then signed by Vitória de Guimarães in the summer of 2010 on a free transfer after Estrela failed to pay his wages. He signed a five-year contract with a €9 million release clause. However, he did not play an official match for the club. On 11 August 2010, only five weeks after he signed for Vitória de Guimarães, Manchester United agreed an undisclosed fee with the Portuguese club for the transfer of Bébé.[10] The fee was reported to be around £7.4 million.

Why should a small club like Vitoria be able to ask for that type of money for un-tested player.

Forget un-tested players we can't even sell some of our better players for good money.
This is cause of the board & to some extent us supporters !!!!! Aye, us supporters.
Remember, during this transfer window, the rumour about Scott Brown going to Liverpool, Jesus man, we had a thread about it & the number of guys coming on it & ridiculing the idea of Brown going to Liverpool, cause he was so *, how some of you would drive him down themselves, ridiculing a few who said he was worth 10mil or more, how they'd be happy if we even got a mil for him etc etc, you guys know who you are, so go back to that thread, read what you've written, feel ashamed & stop complaining as to why our players don't go for big money.
I've said this earlier, we should learn fae the Huns, they build up average players to be world beaters & make good money out of them, Boumsong, Hutton, Cuiller etc to name a few

And as for our Board, that's another story, we'll save that for another day.

Moral Of The Story: When it comes to selling, lets build up our players, even a Daryl Murphy !!!!!!!!

Lets start now: That lad Murphy, fck man he's brilliant isn't he? That Alan Shearer couldn't lace his boots !!!!!!!!!!!:50:

We are the worst team I can think of at trying to get the best value for our players. Even i the SPL rangers, hibs, hearts and even hamilton accies are better at bumpin up the price of their players. We seem to have a low valuation of our players and are inclined to sell as soon as that valuation is met or sometimes just below it. We also have a bad habit of not selling players at the right time, either waiting until their contract is nearly out or the player is too old e.g the whole MON team except Petrov. Boruc once rated at £10m goes for peanuts, naka left for nothin, JVOH zero, list is endless.

I heard Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter are after him. According to my sources Barca offered 20 mill. We, of course, rejected that silly bid. They can go f__k themselves, his worth at least twice that!

On a more serious note, i think the low transfer we get for our players are mostly because of the standard of the spl and the board (they need to tell teams that want our players to stick it where the sun don't shine, till they offer really good money).

:50: a big problem though being our fans would rage at the sale of any stars, even for the long term development of the club on and off the field. its the way to go though.
