I'm a big fan of Samaras, and hold him in higher regard than Stokes. This season I'd say Hooper was our best striker, though. However, I'd always be putting Stokes 3rd in the pecking order.

Your incessant fake praise of a player who has been pretty poor for us in his contract here is mind boggling. What clubs in Italy and Spain were interested in him? Coming to the end of his contract the truth is no-one wanted him. Our board have taken a gamble on a player who has hardly scored in the last season and a half and is plagued with inconsistency.

I respect the opinions of professionals, but certainly not the ramblings of basket case such as yourself. I am also a Celtic shareholder and I dont agree with the contract offered him. At the game last Sunday there was nobody that I could see that felt the same.

Stokes , who this post is about, has shown more ability to link up and work as a partnership with Hooper and other players in the team. I sincerely hope that Neil goes back to him to get the goals the team needs and Sammy can go back to warming the bench.

If you look at the posts in this thread, you'll see that Sammy's name has been dragged through the mud, so i'm just answering these posts. If you don't want a discussion about Samaras, then tell the myriad of other posters on this thread not to bring Sammy into it. It seems attacking Sammy is fair game on this thread but defending him is not? Sammy-bashers are full of these double standards....

Sorry mate, your ridiculous post has now lost all credibility. I dont know any decent Celtic fans who read the hun biased Scottish newspapers. And I consider myself to have a better understanding and insight into the game than the likes of Keith Jackson, Darryl King and all those other *.

You actually * believe the * they write about our club???

This is the point where this thread turned into a Samaras thread rather than a Stokes thread. Up to this point if you would like to check yourself Samaras got more good reviews than bad ones.
To blame a myriad of posters for responding to you and turning this into a Samaras thread does not hold water. These posters are just responding to your over the top paise of Samaras.

Lets get this thread back on track since Sammy's No.1 fan has taken us off on a tangent. Basically I am hoping that when it comes to the game against ICT next week that Hooper and Stokes start. I feel this is our best attacking partnership and we will dominate the game if we start with the two of them. Also if Stokes plays every game till end of the season I have a feeling he will finish the leagues top goal scorer ahead of Hooper.

Er no, the moment this thread turned nastily against Samaras was PAGE NUMBER 1, POST NUMBER 1 where this was written:

"Samaras is a braindead *, give Anthony Stokes a chance Neil."

There then followed a myriad of arguments against Samaras and i simply joined in the discussion to redress the balance and air my views on the subject.

Anyway, in the interests of forum harmony, i won't post anything about Sammy on this thread again. The Prof is right, let's get back on topic.

js paterson, i agree with you, Stokesy and Hoops should start against ICT. They are the perfect partnership for inferior opposition. It will be good experience for them until they establish themselves as proven goalscorers.

it's nowhere near as bad people are making-out. Celtic have been doing great against Rangers with teams that don't involve Stokes. So why change that?

He will come back into it. But everybody has to take their chances.

Hooper and Stokes are proven goal scorers, both on 13 this season. Also both have played for lesser clubs and scored plenty goals, Hooper with Scunthorpe 08/09 - 30 goals and 09/10 - 20 goals. Stokes with Hibs where he scored 23 goals in 09/10 If these stats don't show that they are proven goal scorers I don't know what will.

I'm simply not convinced...especially at this level...we'll see how they do against European oppostion.
    Time will tell...

You said it yourself, they've played for "lesser clubs" - therefore have scored goals against "inferior opposition" for the most part. Time will tell if they're worthy of playing for a big club on a regular basis. Right now, i'm not too sure about them as a front two...(Especially Stokes, who seems to have developed an arrogant attitude if his Dar's comments are anything to go by...)...

No my point is they played at lesser clubs not against lesser clubs. At their previous clubs they would have received poorer service from the midfield and inferior link up play. I think that the fact that they have these records even though they played for these clubs shows just how good they are.

stokes was facing the same teams then as he is now. and his team obviously created the chances for him.

hooper had a great season, but again, the chances were there- it may be that scunthorpe relied on him, but they have other good players you know, that create chances

do you even listen to yourself?

stokes (18 goals)and hooper (15 goals) are not goal scorers but sammy(6 goals) is :97:
stokes has the most goals AND the most assists this season so should start every game with hooper when fit. sammys been here for 4 years now and hasnt shown in any big european games that hes going to score regularly in europe, goals against dynamo hopoel and twente are all that i can remember

it doesnt matter who they used to play for they play for celtic now and 2 out of the 3 are doing the business one isnt

I understood your point js. What i'm saying is that Stokes played for a lesser clubs (Sheffield Utd, Crystal palace, Falkirk, Hibs) and therefore played against inferior clubs by virtue of the league they were in. English League Division One (or championship or whatever it's now called) is not a top top quality league, nor is the Scottish Premier to be honest, the only top teams Stokes played against when he was at Hibs was us and the huns. Therefore, it's no wonder that he notched up goals...
The only top leagues he was in (when he played for Arsenal and Sunderland) he was released...

very gullible mate, stokes and his dad have both come out and denied what the papers said, stokes says he wants to stay and fight for his place here and that he'd glady see out his career at celtic, thats good enough for me. Dont understand where these allegations of him having an attitude come from, unless you believe everything the record spouts... which is niave.

Im not a sammy basher by any means, hes a qaulity player when on form and he certainly wasnt the worst player last week, but the combination play between stokes and hooper imo is far more effective, both are proven goalscorers in the spl and havent really had a bad game when theyve been paired together .
