Obviously yee can criticise him and stuff, but I dont think it is fair to be calling him a pub player and a reject. Also, you say he doesnt even try? Like what gives you the authority to say that? It really annoys me when people question a players commitement and dedication, ya Murphy isint a great player but how does that mean he is not trying his best?. Everyone will have their own opinions on Murphy and his abilities, but please dont question his commitement to the club. And to be honest he got nine caps for Ireland, mainly as a sub to be fair, they didnt all just come from a lucky break at Sunderland, he actually wasnt playing too bad at the time.

Tell that to the sunderland fans. I wont ramble on any more about him but in with keepin with the thread is it not scarey that he was starting before a fully fit stokes and sammy recently when each day out he wasnt producing the goods (not just goal wise but performance wise for the team)

i dont think he is first choice,i think lenny uses him in certain games for physical presence or when no other option/injuries thats it ,no point everyone getting heated over it.

I think it's shocking people are questioning his commitment to the club and if he's trying or not. Of course he tries his best for the team, he just isn't good enough imo

To be honest I think he would be more of an impact player coming of the bench as a target man in the last 20 mins or so if we needed a goal. I remember him coming on in this role against St. Mirren away when we werent playing great and he actually won a few balls in the air and his presence caused them a bit of trouble. I would be one of the first people to say if Murphy had a bad game or whatever, but I would never question his commitement to the team.

So far i have not been impressed by him, but i will give him time to settle in and see what he can do before end of the season. I reckon Lennon sees him being a sub to put on late on in games in which we need a goal and he will be the target man. We cant change how the manager thinks and sees things, best to get behind them and hope they deliver.

After reading all the comments defending him, I have still come to the logical conclusion and, ulitmately, to my original opinion - Murphy is pish.

Why not see him for what he really is a squad player I thought he looked ok at Motherwell home to Hearts and when he came on as a sub at St.Mirren however all he is there for is to offer some height when needed think he needs game time seems unfit since his lay off but problem being Celtic aren't a long ball team only when needs be so most target men wont fit into the teams play with the exception of someone like Sutton(even once he was there we used long ball to often) but we can't afford another Sutton so who ever comes in will probably find themselves on the bench most weeks think problem with Murphy is we paid too much, which is not his fault. So obviously he's the only there for his height and once he's played a few times his link up play will be better, never be first choice just someone to bring on when a change of tactics is needed(I know someone going to write when we need a pish cant head, run or control the ball type player), look at Rasmussen and his attitude about not playing every week at least Murphy not disrupting the dressing room.

The question is: what does he bring to the team? Maybe behind the scenes he's great, as he's a Celtic man and might show some of the players a bit of what the club is about. However, you don't pay upwards of a million for that, you pay that to produce dividends on the pitch. I've never been impressed when I saw him. Not for us, not for Sunderland. Yes, you've got to give the guy a chance, but he doesn't have the requisite quality to prove me wrong. I'm certain of it. Carthorse.

He wont ever be sold, sunderland fans couldnt believe we actualy bought him, they were ragin he was draining the club every week with reasonably big wages and we saved them a big loss, nobody will ever want to sign him unless its for maybe £100,000 at best meaning we will make a massive loss of £1.5m plus wages maybe £3 million mistake altogether

he's not as bad as all that. cant fault him for effort and he does do a great deal of work as an assistant up front. he won us the game against motherwell at cp back in september by his performance almost single handedly.
in a ugly game when route 1 football needs to be used he can do a job.

I couldnt b bothered arguing but yes he is that bad nobody will ever buy him unless its for less than 20% what we paid. And doing his job for 1 game against motherwell doesnt make up for all his other poor performances when he hasnt done hs job, he doesnt win the headers and when he does its mis directed, has poor feet by big men standards 2 and is thus unable to hold the ball up and assist, the ball bounces off him, hes too slow to take a man on to, not to mention not skillfull enough, hes never actualy shot with his head either never in the right place, just a poor footballer, wouldnt be half as obvious if he didnt cost so much and wasnt playing as much

Incredibly bad positioning: literally never in a scoring position. Doesn't deserve to call himself a striker.

Maybe he's not as bad as I thought. He's never Celtic class, but looking at this thread from Sunderland fans he might not be total *. They've seen a lot more of him than me and they are saying things like he's better than McGeady and is worth 4 mill.

Maybe he's lacking confidence. We should get behind him.
