I don't think that's it, he doesn't get the ball with room to knock it into anymore because the tactics have changed. Before he was practically a winger and he knew that Joe Ledley was covering him; now he holds his play until we're a bit more assured in possession; which allows the players to sit behind the ball from deep which means Izzy needs to beat them with skill.

Honduras plays the USA tonight in WQ qualifying. Anyone know if Emilio will be in the starting lineup? I hope he has a good game, but not good enough for Honduras to take away any points.

I think next season will be an important one for Emilio Izaguirre.

    1st season - Fantastic.
2nd season - Destroyed by injury
    3rd season - Very average(in my opinion)

Basically he hasn't contributed much for 2 seasons now. I don't expect him to get back to the form he showed in his first season here but it would be nice if he could get somewhere close to it next season. If his form next season is the same as it was this season then I'd be on the lookout for a new left back next summer.

He had glimpses last season of the Izzy we expect. I agree it is a massive year for him, but one I think with a good pre-season he'll excel in.

Maybe we might sign another LB who might push Izzy for a place. Can get complacent with no real challenge in your position.

Look at how well both Matthews and Lustig were last season. Both had very good seasons and I think it's great that if one is out I won't be too nervous of bringing in the other. We need that at LB too.

There's a common theme with full backs in a Celtic strip, the fans get used to them and after 1 or 2 seasons they become 'pish'. He blew hot and cold last season but a lot of the time he was the exact same player as he's always been.

Even Naylor wasn't as bad as some would have you believe, same with Telfer. Their confidence ends up taking a bash because the crowds get nervous when the ball goes near them.

I can only speak for myself and say that this isn't the case at all. I was a huge Jackie McNamara fan, I really liked Mark Wilson and I was one of the few who liked Lee Naylor and stuck up for him often. There have been others that I have thought were * like Telfer and Cha right enough.

I just think that ever since his ankle break he's been a shadow of the player he was in his first season here. He doesn't look as fast, he gets caught out of position a lot more often and his crossing was brutal in the second half of last season.

He needs to up his game.

In his first season he seemed fast enough to take players on with the ball at his feet. Unless I'm imagining it I can't remember him actually running at players with the ball lately? He makes runs beyond and gets played in but just doesn't seem quite as effective as he once was to me.

Can't understand why anyone would think Paul Telfer was *. He was solid and had an outstanding engine. Never going to be a world beater but he let our more imaginative players play.

Did some amount of leg work for Nakamura. I was 15/16/17 when he played and a full back myself, and he used to set a great example.

Aye Telfer wasnt that bad, he rarely got skinned, rarely done anything good either he was just a decent allround player. I never once thought "aw naw Telfers playing hes gonna get the pish ripped out him". You knew he wasnt going to go up getting crosses in but you also knew he was going to be solid enough at the back.

He was a wise player who had years of Premiership experience.

Jackie Mac played as a centre mid the entire O'Neill era. Wilson's own body was his biggest enemy it was impossible to judge him as a Celtic player but he was good when he got a half dozen games in a row. Naylor was a decent player just lost all confidence and Telfer facilitated Naka entirely under Strachan. Cha had a couple of things going for him, pace being the main one, but was ultimately not good enough.

Id rate our full-backs of the 2000's

    1. Agathe
    2. McNamara
    3. Lustig
    4. Hinkel
    5. Izaguirre
    6. Matthews
    7. Wilson
    8. Mulgrew
    9. Telfer
    10. Cha
    11. Doumbe
    12. Braafheid
    13. Fox
    14. Caddis
    15. M.Gray
    16. Crainey
    17. Naylor
    18. El Kaddouri
    19. Camara
    20. Blackman

I think that's all that have played for us. Although Ross Wallace wasnt a full-back id put him in at number 10 for the few games he played there, although he couldnt defend atleast he had good pace, could get forward and was a good crosser.

Forgot Mulgrew and Fox, although I wouldnt class Mulgrew as one he is a better one than most. Forgot Cha too.

Can't really argue with that. Perhaps a bit generous with Braafheid, I'd have him, El Kaddouri and Camara as the bottom 3.

I also thought Caddis was excellent and would probably find his way up to around 8th for me.

The only poor players there were Naylor, El Kaddouri and Camara - we've been quite lucky. Even Michael Gray did a job on the left. He was excellent in Lyon when we lost 3-2 there.

You've done Lee Naylor a major disservice there. Naylor did more for Celtic than any of the 8 players you have directly above him. He probably did more than Mulgrew(as a full-back) and Wilson too.
