I don't think it matters who is playing in front of Izzyguire now, as I think this is a psychological thing he has got since his ankle break, and his form and confidence has dipped considerably since it. As things stand, Izzyguire is not good enough to be left back for Celtic any longer in my opinion, and he should be dropped for the Cup Semi, and we should look to play Gershon there from now on.

Unsure if I agree with that. At times he's looked really good. He's not been the same as his first season, undoubtedly, but he has certainly improved vastly since his initial comeback from that injury where he looked * scared to take the ball beyond the half way line.

It obviously did make a difference when he played with Commons as opposed to Sammy. Anyone could see that even away back. Commons style of play out on the left suited Izy's forward runs in a way Sammy's nature never will.

I disagree he should be dropped as well. I would maybe like to see Gershon given a shot, but then we didn't sign him to play left back and I'd rather see him given his chance in central defence (even though I still prefer Mulgrew playing there). Maybe give wee Chalmers a run if Izaguirre has to be dropped to give him a kick up the *.

Izzy started well and is now part of one of the shoddiest defences we've had for years. Don't trust him at all. Performances this season have been totally lacklustre of poor - his positioning is * shocking.

I dont think we have one of the shoddiest defences in years! It was only 3 years ago that Lennon inherited a defence off Mowbray that was a lot worse than this one.

But I agree regarding Izaguirre, especially concerning his positioning. He is all over place and the amount of diagonal high balls that he gets caught out by is incredible.

Izzy's drop in form is down to formation, imo. When Commons played on the left, he would cut in to shoot or play something through the middle. This allowed Izzy space to overlap and attack right down the touchline - think of the several roastings he gave Whittaker. However, when Sammy plays on the left, he is more likely to attack that same space that Izzy otherwise would which, essentially, prevents him from getting as far up the pitch and running at people. Problem is, Sammy has been fantastic in that position...so what do you pick?

How many times is this guy gonna get caught out on the blindside?

It's criminal and so amateurish,it happens all the time...
Daly had 5 yards of freedom didn't have to jump, move just guide it in...
    Shocking defensive play

Izzy has been pish poor for ages now, another one we need to bomb out in the summer, and get a decent left back in for a change.

All Dundee United attacks were coming down our right, and Barry Douglas roasted him all day. Lenny needs to see this and drop Izzy for the Final.

He was excellent going forward again today.

His defensive duties are suspect though, especially defending the back post.

hopefully we bring in a LB and try him further forward.

Too many goals are lost with balls to the back post going over Izzy's head. Great player going forward, terrible at defending at times.

Thought he was one of our best performers today. Daly used his height advantage against him on a number of occasions, but his main contribution for us is getting forward and he was always in support.

I do think we just need another good left back to challenge him for the starting line up. He knows he's our only natural left back so he can get complacent and casual, where as if he's battling it out with another guy then he knows he will just get dropped, who knows it might make the difference.

    Nonsense.

Izzy just happens to be a poor defender and a hopeless crosser.

Every good cross he makes he wastes 2-3 more.

At fault for the Daly goals.

I wouldn't sell him,I would definitely get another lb in for healthy competition...

I agree with most we can all see it,good going forward always on the over lap, bombing forward at any opportunity the amount of times Ledley looks for the izzy outlet a game any statto for this,it's always on...
But he is terrible at defending

I thought he was pretty good today, think he got two assists. Put in a lot of dangerous balls.

Was partly at fault for Daly's second but made a good covering challenge towards the end.

He is very good getting forward, but as echoed by some others before me, his defending isn't the greatest.

I thought he was good today though. Played his part well and got an assist for Vic's goal. Good contribution.

Should only play when we are playing wing backs as part of a back 5. All his good work going forward is out weighed by his terrible positioning.

Theres nothing he can do about John Daly beating him in the aire for fucksake :smiley-laughing002: hes 5ft 8 and daly is 6ft 3, if people use that as a tactic then its our job to change things and fix it like put Mulgrew to left back.
