Difference is the UK aren't an oppressed minority with their land occupied by an aggressor which bombs them on a daily basis.

In Italy ultras who show support for the Palestinian cause are mainly right/far-right. Lazio being the main ones.

Ah, I did go back and reread it, but in the context I misread the preceding sentence as a rhetorical question with a missing question mark. So I read the post as meaning that it would be ridiculous to have that opinion (that it is a political display, but we shouldn't be punished). TBF I should have realised that he is one of the few on here that does take the trouble to use punctuation in his posts.

Also TBF I did ask for clarification on his original post initially and got this:

    Sarcasm and the internet.

Regime, that's not very nice of you to drag that out and make me look a * (as if we don't all sometimes misread things) instead of just telling me that I had misunderstood your post.

AS Livorno also support the Palestinian cause. Our fans have links with them I think.

It doesn't really bother me that Lazio fans have displays about Palestine. Stalin hated Hitler. The old saw about my enemy's enemy being my friend isn't always true.

    Yip :smiley-laughing002:

My point was support for Palestine won't make us a target for any traditonally right-wing clubs in Europe. It's a lot more nuanced than people think.

The ones it will annoy are Ajax, Spurs and Israeli teams themselves. I hope to * we never play Beitar Jerusalem.

Aye think a good few Tottenham fans got there heads kicked in a few years back when they were over there in Europe because of their apparent Jewish connection.

I hope to * after Tuesday we never have to play any Israeli mob again. The * shouldn't even be in European competition :smiley-laughing002:

I don't really see what's funny about that :97: & I never once intimated we were liked by right wing ultras, where/when did I suggest that? So because we're not liked already this wouldn't make us MORE of a target, what's naive about that!?! I'm well aware of how we are viewed but to say this won't have any direct repurcussions for our fans is nonsense. Your chain of thought is strange to me but If you disagree, great mate, brilliant, batter on.

I think part of the problem here is the terms in which the debate seems always to be framed when it comes to Celtic fans. Why do we hold our own fans to standards we don't expect from anyone else?

When UEFA let us through against Legia Warsaw, nobody that I remember was arguing that we should refuse because it might have repercussions for our fans in the future (which it will if we ever play them again). Whenever we were skelping the huns, I don't recall anyone pleading with the team not to score any more because it might have repercussions for our fans.

Similarly when UEFA have displays for Mandela or against racism (both of which I agree with BTW), we don't hear much about politics having no place in football.

    What's the craic with that?

Anyone seen the picture of a Celtic badge being projected on to a Palestinian building? Can't work out if it's real or not?

More of a target with who then ?

I fail to see who could despise us any more than they already do. Our fans will always be targets for others. Same for every club across the world. It's part of football, always has been & always will be. This display won't have made much if a difference imo.

I get you're probably one of these fans who want us to be universally loved. Our fans to stop singing rebels, stop showing hate toward the monarchy, wear poppies on our tops etc. It's not going to happen. Better just accepting it and learning to live with it and the consequences.
