when you look at it, the Green Brigade have been politically correct 99.9 percent of the time, and the Establishment know they are correct. there are still war criminals walking the streets, they must be hounded out.

Bar anti-fascist protests (which we should all agree with) i.e. Palestine, the GB only get involved in political matters when it overlaps into football. The SNP protests and the poppy debacle were an example of political powers trying to exert their ideals/wants onto our club. The fans as paying customers and also citizens with a vote have a right to respond. The GB who have a group of like minded fans decided to get together and put their views across not only to the politicians but the board to make their stance clear.

We are an anti fascist club who should not be afraid of saying so, we are also citizens of Scotland and when the Scottish government try to tell us, a football club, what to do then we must surely have the right to reply. The GB whether you agree with their opinions or not choose to do it in the football ground where it has maximum effect and for that I applaud them.

As for saying well they could get the board into trouble, well sometimes fans need to say something regardless of the board or not, we arecthe life blood of the club and when a matter arises regarding the club politically that includes UEFA and the SFA then us the life blood have the right to a say in our football club. Disagree then simply dont join in or make a counter banner but try not to surpress a largely positive influence in our support.

Celtic is more than 11 men on a field.

Politics shouldn't have a place at a football match whether the view is correct or wrong IMO.

    Fantastic post.

Celtic is one of the few special clubs, one of the few that transcend football, certainly the only one in the UK, we must stand up for that, we can't allow ourselves to be turned into just another team.

What gives Celtic our enormous global appeal is our fanbase, and what makes our fanbase so special is how much our club means to us, that it is so much more than just a Saturday afternoon day out like you'd get at places like Arsenal or Newcastle or Motherwell or wherever else.

I don't know about anyone else but I completely agreed with the poppy banner - it was a scandalous decision to dirty our shirt with it. Same with John Reid, his appointment is one of the most shameful things to ever happen to our club. If anything, the fans weren't vocal enough about removing him.

So are you saying you are happy to leave all decisions to the board and let them be the voice of our club or you still want fans to have a say but just away from CP?

Away from celtic park, I'm sure the board/members of staff etc would be welcome to a private meeting rather than what could be seen as a protest.

If politics weren't a part of football there wpuld be no Celtic.

What happens when politics tries to mess about with football, a the SNP did.
    Where is the line drawn?

Politics effect everything in this world, footballs no exception.

So why are we bombarded with poppies on strips every year, with the royal family even getting involved so england can wear it, why are British army murderers regularly paraded around stadia like heroes?

    Get over it.

We are no different from any top European club.

Is this "no politics in football" argument still going?.....For as long as Celtic are still here, there will be a political view.... it's a big part of our identity.

    Get over it.

I'm not aiming that directly at celtic? I don't agree with poppies on football tops at all or people from the Army being paraded around football stadiums either I think its stupid.

You cannot have it both ways.

If the Celtic Football Club and the Celtic jersey are being used as a vehicle to endorse the British poppy – a symbol with obvious political undertones - then you cannot deny those who are opposed to the sinister connotations of that symbol, a platform to exercise their objection.

Thats true and I guess you could argue that the whole poppy banner could be solved by poppies being banned from football tops....because as far as I have seen they aren't wore in any other sport are they?

I suppose I'm maybe just saying this because I agree entirely with the GB's political views, but I think they are justified and necessary.

"No bloodstained poppy on our Hoops" and to the day I die I wont wear one. :celt_2:

People still got a chip on their shoulder over the poppy banner.

    Embarrassing.

Whether you agree with it or not when politics and football overlap, us the fans have a right to a say and if that is inside the stadium then so be it.

I appreciate that and I'm not aiming this directly at you but the general view is politics and football don't mix, but it's fine if it's politics that toe the party line. How is putting a symbol of British imperialism on a football shirt not political? How is parading soldiers not political? But sing a song of rebellion and it's the end of the world as we know it? I don't think so.

Celtic ARE a political club, we always have been, and we always will be (remember who laid the first patch of grass at Parkhead, remember who donated the flag that flies above the north stand). I just wish the self loathers amongst us (again not aimed at you) would accept it and move on.
