when was the last time celtic beat an mls side? ive been to celtic games in n america, ive been to toronto fc games, ive been to the mls cup final. I go over to see a couple games at park head every year, and without doubt most mls teams are near old firm level, and deff better than the rest of the league

Haha okay then. Where is this anti-SPL bandwagon and I will jump on it. Seeing how you have just created this in your head because of my opinion.

The SPL is dire. If celtic and rangers were not in the league it wouldnt survive. MLS are not the ones having to restructure their league to attract people to watch it.

Fact is I beleive De Rosario could come here and light up parkhead!

I live in Dallas and have seen De Rosario play numerous times when he was in Houston (disclaimer; I'm canadian and biased). I can tell you this guy is an absolute winner, * of a leader and has heart. He's had plenty of skill to be a top player in the MLS and I've often wondered why he never moved to Europe while in the peak of his career. He's still got stamina though I worry that he may not have enough pace for Celtic. As-is though, he can score and has a great eye for a pass and I'd be more than willing to stick him in as an off-striker. Unfortunately, what we need is a penalty box striker but we'll just have to wait on that one.

Couldn't agree more. Plus, like I say, he can score a goal, my only concern is his legs. He's a tough SOB too and doesn't take any *, would be a hero for the club. I saw him playing Dallas in the fabled Texas derby (ha!) when we had a right, diving little Argentine * called Toja. Toja dove over a tackle from de Rosario for a free-kick in a dangerous spot, blatent dive followed up with a wee roll and cry on the ground. De Rosario stands over him, grabs him by his shirt and hauls him straight to his feet whereupon Toja is miraculously cured. Absolute classic.

Dwayne De Rosario has not been given permission by his club Toronto to go on trial with Celtic. The Canadian international trained with Neil Lennon’s side at Lennoxtown on Tuesday, just hours after the MLS club stated their player would not go on trial.

In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, Toronto said De Rosario had travelled to Scotland without seeking their consent.

But the Canadian club also offered a lukewarm response to the prospect of the 32-year-old joining Celtic on a short term loan, provided the SPL side made an appropriate approach.

"We were unaware of Dwayne's plan to train with Celtic and we will contact them to understand the situation,” a statement from the club read.

“Obviously, if there is interest in a short term loan arrangement by either him or Celtic, they will need to approach us and the League formally and we will consider based on what is in TFC's best interest.”

De Rosario joined Freddie Ljungberg at Celtic training on Tuesday, with manager Lennon speaking highly of the Toronto player and confirming he would spend a week on trial in Scotland.

“He is in today,” Celtic boss Neil Lennon confirmed on Tuesday. “He's a similar player to Shaun Maloney, he likes to play off the left and come inside.

“He is a skilful, sharp and intelligent player. Again it's an opportunity for us to have a look and see what he can offer us, and he's here for a week.”

Toronto’s interim general manager, Earl Cochrane, made clear through the club’s official website on Monday night that De Rosario, who has two years left to run on his contract, would not be allowed to go on trial.

“Dwayne is not going on trial with Celtic or any other club,” Cochrane told MLSsoccer.com. “We have not received word from anyone and expect him to be with TFC when training camp opens next month.

“Dwayne is currently under contract with us and is a very important player for us moving forward.”

I live in Ontario and have watched him for years. Dero is a stud and will walk into our first team. Great touch, finishing and engine. Anyone who thinks he is not good enough because he came from MLS needs to give their head a shake. MLS is better then the SPL as a whole so he is prooven as far as I'm concerned. The only plave he needs to prove himself is Europe and, quite frankly, being as we don't spend much time there these days I wouldn't worry much about that.
    Get him in the hoops!!!!

    Fair enough, lol.

His Utube stuff does make him look pretty * awesome, I certainly wouldn't disrespect his pedigree on that showing - some seriously good goals.

Bullshit. If it's better than the SPL then how come players like Adu can rip it up when he's 14 and now can't even make the bench for Aris Thessilonikis. :56:Another example: Altidore. Didn't he have 28 games for Hull? How many goals did the prolific MLS striker score? 1.

    * league, makes the SPL look like La Liga.

Houston11Soccer: It is confirmed that DeWayne De Rosario is trialing with Celtic FC

It is confirmed that DeWayne De Rosario is trialing with Celtic FC
I posted yesterday that former Houston Dynamo playmaker DeWayne De Rosario was being linked to Celtic FC in Scotland. That story took an interesting twist today as Toronto FC, the club he is currently under contract with, came out and denied the reports this morning. However, De Rosario and the club are now confirming that not only is he a target of Celtic’s but he is actually there trialing with the club.

I want to emphasis, as has been done lately, that this is a trial and not just a training meaning that if Celtic are impressed they are willing to make an offer for the dynamic midfielder. According to a statement made by Toronto FC today they were not aware of his plans to trail in Scotland and referred to this as being a move for a short term loan before MLS play starts.

However, Jen Chang at ESPN tweeted that the move would be for an outright transfer as Celtic are prepared to pay a transfer fee to MLS and Toronto FC but are less likely to move for a short loan. What that fee would be remains to be seen. I would venture to say it would need to be at least seven figures for Toronto to part with their best player but that is just my opinion.

De Rosario has made it clear for a year now that he is unhappy with his contract and is looking for a salary that matches the value he brings on the field. He would certainly receive that raise in pay in Scotland.

The story is very interesting to follow and it will get more fascinating if Celtic is impressed and want to make a move for De Rosario. I am not sure how Toronto FC and MLS will enter into or handle the negotiations if it is true that this was a unilateral move on De Rosario’s part. One thing is for sure, it is does not seem like a simple negotiation tactic and it looks like De Rosario is serious about moving on from Toronto.
