Thing that bugs me the most about how they cut up Ulster like they did is how they don't even educate their own population about how and what they did there.

Theres a girl from Aberdeen in my law class (protestant), says her granny is from Donegal. I say, "Beautiful place that." Reply was, "Yah and it's in the good part of Ireland"

She meant it jokingly, tease each other a lot about the situation in Ireland and the UK. But she really didn't know that Ulster, was (politically not historically, thats another debate that could go on for ages) a 3 county province in the Republic! She would not beleive me so she went home and she was stunned to find this out.

Figures the one person I can talk to about this stuff here besides my dad knows hee-haw about it!

    Slightly OT

But strictly speaking on that point it was the Government of Ireland act that brought about what is now the 6 counties, the border maps were drafted as memory serves me by the Boundary Commission around 6 or 7 times before they where deemed acceptable as Newry was placed in the south on all previous drafts, I can't remember the person who altered it but Eoin MacNeill ended up in a difficult position at the time and agreed it.
TG4 had a cracking programme on about the border drawings recently, went into brilliant detail.

Whether the British predicted the inclusion of Northern Ireland's err Irishness in the constitution when the Republic was formed or not is kind of perplexes me. You'd think if they meant for Northern Ireland to be part of the UK permanently they'd have tried to "simmer down" ethnic tensions there through propaganda etc. But to the contrary, they seemed to do the opposite, not encouraging the militaristic attitudes of some unionists in the north but certainly facilitating it to the point where it seemed the Catholics had no other logical option but to revolt. Not to mention the bad light it shed on Britain because of it... It's as if the partition of Ireland was the worst decision since the colonization of Ireland (again can be debated) and they facilitated it to fail.

I think my bloods stopped boiling because of the banner and because of today's result so i thought I'd have a wee look at the thread here and to see it not just be e-bullets flying around was a surprise. More of a surprise it had nothing to do with the poppy protest. This thread has taken a turn for the better, it's interesting and is about something that actually matters, somewhat at least.

I try to keep a clear mind on it, rather than filling it full of BS

Although, my favorite book about the troubles is "Ballymurphy and the Irish War" which although was very (VERY, but not simply propaganda, it still stated IRA atrocities rather than deny them) slanted towards republicanism, had some great stories in it.

Another good one was "Stone Cold" (I think that was the title, was borrowing from my dad) about Micheal Stone. Although sick, it gave an insight into the mind of someone who I'd otherwise never understand.

I've also plugged through Tim Pat Coogan's "The IRA"
If you've read it before, you probably know the reasons you should and shouldn't read this book, like reading a textbook, found it really hard to finish.

My dad told me about how he met Jim Bryson and Gerry Adams themselves, standing around a fire during the night sometime, think it was after Bombay street was burned (if you see the footage of all the people there, my das the one facing the camera carrying the couch at the end there), anyways, Bryson comes over saying "Never trust those * prods after that right boys" (or something like that) everyone nodded and said yep except Gerry, giving Bryson a history lesson about Wolfe Tone and Robert Emmet.

My dad tells me this story a lot, i cant tell if he;s bullshitting me or not but i guess i beleive him enough to tell the story

I'm not long back from the game. Long distance travelling's a pain in the *. * game but what can you do about it.

All i can say is some of our wonderful fans really nailed their colours to the mast tonight/last night. Heard many a chant about ira and all sorts of *. Pretty much confirmed it for me that we have a lot fans just as bad as the huns. Clinging on to the past and looking for an argument just for the sake of it. Fair enough it was pretty much petty retaliation to the mini huns but it was still sad to see. The mini huns set the bait and a good few of our fans took it.

Back to the original topic anyway. Myself, the girlfriend and 2 pals all went wearing poppy's.All have personal reasons for it so i won't explain. Didn't think anything of it at first but as a few people made supportive comments and how it showed we weren't all of a one track mind. But eventually the abuse started. A bunch of wee neds started giving it some * about how we we're huns sent there to stir up trouble and how we were "gonne get it" after the game. So to cut a long story short now.We watched til the end of the game. We're fed up with the result, left with our faces tripping us only to be confronted by 5 or 6 arseholes wanting to fight. Tried ignoring it but they couldn't leave it. One started on my mate cos he had an english accent. He got punched on the side of the head. Again we tried to ignore it but one overstepped the mark and started on my girlfriend. So like any guy would do i stepped in the middle and tried to usher her away but he had a swing at me and caught me on my shoulder as i had pulled away. Police started bombing over at this point but i still managed to nut the wee * in the process of it all. I'm not a violent person but when some coward tries hitting my girlfriend i'll do time if needs be.

So to sum up my night. Thanks go to the * idiots amongst our fans who are just as bad as the huns. Funny how they are only vocal when they outnumber you. Fighting your fellow supporters....if that's not a sure sign we're on a slippy slope i don't know what is.

Ashamed to be a Celtic fan.....NEVER!! But i sure as * won't ever try to imply our fans are any better than the huns anymore.

First of all.......travelling all the way from Barnsley for a Wednesday night game in Edinburgh.......fair play to you mate.

Secondly, if that story is true then I am really sorry to hear that and it makes for pretty depressing reading. :54: I wouldn't wear a poppy myself but I would never abuse you verbally or physically for wearing one. You're a fellow Tim and that's the most important thing to me.

Disgraceful, guess the stupid wee neds don't actually believe in freedom of speech after all :38:

The ones who attacked you are nothing but scumbags plain and simple.

    For * sake that's ridiculous!

Think we've went along way downhill since our award in seville, some of the fans are just idiotic.

The thing is I bet these guys are british and come under the term "plastic paddy" and there familys have probably been affected by the wars.

I'm just glad your ok mate, disgusted to say the least.

I don't know where this is all going to end...........it's like a throwback to the 70's/80's :54: So much for diversity of support! We're supposed to be such a welcoming and liberal club to all........isn't that the whole ethos of the club? The majority are becoming bullied by the minority.

I truly am starting to fear for the way things are going as it's causing civil war between our own fans and this wont go away either as I can see this surfacing year after year. We need a club strong enough to stand up to these kind of people otherwise they're going to drive the fans away. It's time CFC monitored the away support and rooted out the ones causing us such embarrasment. If we want to move forward as a club we need to do something about this now. I want to be seen to be supporting a football club not a cause for which I haven't one ounce of allegiance to.
