Why are they idiots for voicing an opinion? I'm fairly sure we live in a society that promotes freedom of speech, and in reality, the GB haven't actually did anything wrong.

Ironically due to a group of people which the poppy used to be mainly about - those who fought the *'s.

John Reid and Co. are so full of ironic double standards it's unreal.

Those "celtic bretheren" have just dragged celtic's name through the dirt and have probably just made us the most hated club in britain.:31::31::31:
Most of these people are stupid wee boys that don't even know what they are talking about.

    MILK WAS A BAD CHOICE..
Think I put my two cents on the wrong (poll based) thread.

Let's be clear. The poppy has been entirely hijacked by the establishment in more recent years, probably quite purposefully.

It could be fairly said that it now equally represents the veterans and participants of the current wars and those of the World Wars.

Throughout my life I had no problem tolerating the poppy as I was able to convince myself that the individual and collective acts heroism displayed when faced with an enemy at the gates was generally something honourable, worth even looking past Dresden et al.

There are always some lowest common denominators in society. No doubt we have a few at Celtic who have followed this protest and probably couldn't articulate why, if asked. Probably couldn't even write their own name too.

Problem is, on the flip side, there are the same type of people, socialised -even bainwashed- by the powers that be who aren't scrawling illegibly but are are wielding the latest weaponry, killing indiscriminately and are making the world our children will grow up in more poisonous as a result.

I have no doubt that there are acts of heroism being performed daily by British and American Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. We will be told this and shown them, of course. Neither do I have any doubt that members of the SS would have displayed acts of heroism and courage daily.

This should put it into context in that, no matter how many fanfares and parades; how many Corporations go along with the "Help for Heroes" campaigns; how much the line become slowly blurred as to what the poppy now truly represents; how many people know someone personally who has been over there (I know three myself) the plain, objective truth is that what those forces are doing is wrong.

Wrong in its conception, wrong in it's execution.

In an overarching sense (not individually) they aren't heroes. A million deaths in the scramble for the Earths resources and to buy our Governments a few extra decades headstart on the emerging superpowers isn't heroic, in fact it's as distasteful a scenario as I could possibly envisage and thus not particularly worthy of the legitimacy the once honourable poppy may confer.

Surely the Germans honour their fallen of many a war but don't seek to legitimize the policies of the Third Reich into the bargain? Why has the Poppy not remained simply a symbol of the World War dead? Why must people be bullied into accepting what they may know to be wrong in the here and now, so as to not to offend the memory of completely different events and times?

No one should be in any doubt that there are entirely manipulative elements who wish to treat the entire population as dumbed down sheep, deliberately utilising the memories of a nations fight for survival many decades ago in order to legitimize their policies of today. To my mind, it's these people who sully the honour of men who fought and died in very real battle for their own existence.

What the Poppy has now been manufactured to represent cannot, by any stretch of the imagination be in any way compatible with the Celtic ethos. It's use in this way should be resisted with taste.

... to sum up. This all could have been avoided by not having the the now overtly political poppy at Celtic park. I can appreciate entirely that some may have been offended by the banners (I was offended by the spelling), but a huge portion of our support are offended by the poppy as a symbol, as are many non Celtic people in the wake of the events of more recent decades. How this can sit with previous pronouncements by Celtics top brass on keeping politics out of Celtic park beggars belief.

They are far from a disgrace to Celtic, not that I believe your story one bit right enough.

In your opinion of course. Personally, that banner brought back a great deal of my faith in our support, I loved it in fact! I'm not too fussed about other club's opinions on us at all, * the lot of them.

Your last sentence is just nonsense.

    Fantastic post, really fantastic :50:

    * disgrace if any of them are banned, terrible move on the part of celtic if they persue it, they see fit to impose political crap with regards to allowing the poppy, but they wont allow fans to object to it, hypocrisy at its best :47:

They offend me, I don't go to celtic park with any political agenda. How would they feel if I held up a banner slurring the name of Bobby Sands? I hope the lot of them get banned.
