Just wanted to know if you say players names differently from everyone else. Commentators are the worst for doing it. Darren O'dea for instance, is it pronounced O'dee or O'day? My dad days O'day because Darrens dad was in his taxi and he told my dad it was O'day. My dad always calls samaras, samaris.

It is a sound that, as far as I know, is not used in English. You pronounce it the same way as "Van Buyten". You can hear it at the beginning of the next video:

I worked with a Rangers fan as an apprentice, the Preacher, he had problems pronouncing certain players names, the one that sticks is Del Piero, he used to say Del Perio, *.

I thought it was pronounced as Chabi , but no worries..

Usually after about a season of playing in Britain there's an esatblished pronounciation for a players name.. Barry Davis used to make up his own and just stick with it like a stubborn old goat... Solskjaer being solshara.. Ginola being zhinola..
He was the first guy I heard using the lisp inducing Spanish names during euro 96.. Lopeth plays it to Garthia who plays it back to the barthalona man and then out wide to the valenthia full back etc...

andy gray has a few - kolo tory , gile cleeshay spring to mind..

Most of the dodgy names I hear are from Fifa games etc.

    Puyol - Pooyol
    Arshavin - Arshaaven
    Chiellini - Keeyalini
    Jovetic - Yovetik

To name a few. They're probably pronounced right, but it still makes me chuckle though.
