In the history of the club, there are only very few players who stand out for their ability. Larsson is second only to Jinky. Larsson is now the greatest living Celtic player of all time.

Tommy Burns was a greater Celt than McNeil BTW.

Only Larsson and Burns are worthy of statues.

:50: imo, both diserve statues. McNeill, why he doesn't have one, i dont actually understand.

But the King Of Kings should have one aswell, maybe not in the next few years, but he should get a statue, as should Tommy Burns.

Slightly Off topic but i do beleive i mentioned he should get a statue in the last Thread? :50: :56:

i would definately have a statue for henrik; his contribution at celtic is undoubtedly the most signifigant a player has had in the last 20 years at parkhead; he is a true legend and i would go as far to say he is the greatest player we have ever had; by far the most professional and humble player we've had i'd say

of course, i'm of the younger generation so larsson had a far more profound effect on me than jinky or mcneill, legends as they are.

A man who made nearly 800 appearances and captained the greatest team in the club's history was an AVERAGE player? Aye awright. :87: Go and ask any of the surviving Lisbon Lions how good big Cesar was and see what answer you get.

You're also completely overlooking Billy McNeill's achievements as manager of the club which would have to be taken into consideration when deciding who is most deserving of a statue.

Billy McNeill is the greatest living Celt, there is absolutely no doubt about that in my mind. It would be a a bit of a sham in my opinion if Henrik Larsson had a statue erected and Billy McNeill did not.

    well i totally agree with him.Great player...best in the last 30 years...but he wasn't a superstar.In Celtic fan's eye's yes,but not on the world stage.Jinky was a superstar...Dalglish was a superstar....McGrory.....Stein....Larsson was just a cracking player,but no-one battered Celtic's door down to get him off us!

On the subject of statues....i have to say imo, only McNeil should have one.T Burns was a Celt to the core...but he was only a good player, and a decent manager.Yes he was a passionate Celt, but his tragically young death should not be a reason in itself for any statue...and i am sure TB would agree if he was here today......because if Tommy Burns is to be remembered at all, then surely it is as a man that not only had Celtic in his heart,(but who here doesn't)but had integrity and honesty to spare, and he would have been first to say that his achievements did not merit a statue. He would have been honoured to have been so well thought of,but embarrassed to get a statue before such deserving others.

Well i agree they would have liked him in their squad, but if ManU and/or Barcelona REALLY wanted him, they'd have got him.Money talks.

Larsson IMO WILL NEVER get a statue erected anywhere at CP.....Tommy Burns did 10x more for celtic than Larsson and all he got was a poxy, wee plaque:38:

Good player though he was there were many equal and better strikers in our history who played at a time when the league was far harder to win and the standard of opposition far higher. As others have posted, guys like Jinky, Mcgrory, McNeill are on a completely different level than Henke. All Henke was was an excellent player and model pro but I dont think he symbolised the club in the way that the others have. Henke is on a similar level to Lambo IMO-quality players who gave 5 or 6 good years and were well paid for it.

Tommy Burns, Wee Fergus and the Lisbon Lions should all get 1 before Henrik imo, He's the greatest player of my time and one of the greatest strikers of all time but the above mentioned should get a statue first

Some valid points but in the time Henrik played with us how many other players of his ability would have stayed in the SPL and shown honour to our great club. Football is a money game these days and players like him are few and far between.:50:

Didnt Man Utd offer around £25 million for him at one point and Henrik turned it down himself due to his loyalty to us, according to reports at the time(cant remember which year)

EDIT: I cant be bothered reading and replying in this thread anymore, making out Henrik was only world class in our eyes and no-one elses is a joke.

He was a superstar. He was acknowledged by some of the worlds best players for his ability. He won the Champions League for Barcelona and was loved there by the players and the fans. He doesnt get as much recognition as other players because he played in scotland and not england, spain or italy.
