    A hero to me.

Up there with Big Jock and Brother Walfrid

A few of ma fellow Tims disagree

    Explain why, with evidence?

Look at the Stadium - what more evidence to you need.

We should start a campaign/petition - get the man back to Paradise for a run out before he croaks it

will be intersting to see if anyone would boo - surely not

Hero, or in it for the money?

    Hmmm....I was say both mate.

He rejuvenated Celtic, saving them in the process whilst making a very profitable sum.....don't see anything wrong with that?

This is from Jimmancbhoy in another thread

    source etims
    http://www.etims.net/index.php?optio...1&limitstart=4

'This didn't go down well in a lot of quarters but was a drop in the ocean compared to the storm rising when it was announced that Fergus McCann would make 45m pounds tax-free from his sale. A profit of 36m on his initial investment and 27m pounds more than he had publicly stated he was looking for at the time of his arrival."

i Disagree - he wanted another thread to debate it so here you are

he had a 5 year plan to rebuild the stadium, put a winning team on the park and make money at the same time. he was laughed at by the press when he said that. he done all of the above ! he also could have sold out 4years into that plan and nearly doubled his profit but stayed on. hero or in it for the money? there is no answer to that as he is definetly both of them. well done the bunnet !!

he saved the club....a hero who deserved to make a bit of money.

he was open and honest from the start.....he said he'd invest heavily.....he did
he said he'd rebuild celtic park....he did.
he said we'd win the league.....we did.
and he said once he'd done that...he'd leave with a suitcase of dough from the sale of his shares......he did.

we should carry fergus in the highest regard.....he saved us from oblivion.
the banks were minutes from shutting the doors.

We fergus was tottally upfront with celtic supporters from the start of the takeover and done everything he said he would with regards to re-building celtic park, delivering our 1st title in 10yrs and leaving the the club in a sound financial position and perhaps more importantly he gave us normal fans the chance to own part of our club with the public share issue yes the bunnet had his faults like the way he treated tommy burns amongst others but you dont get to become a millionare buisnessman by not making unpopular decisions at times so to me he is definetely a hero although a lot of people forget it was brian dempsey who did most of the groundwork for the takeover and got fergus involved in the first place only to be shunted out after dissagreeing with fergus.

Well he is a hero no doubt but his biggest mistake was hiring Jock Brown as General Manager/Director of Football.

Both, he said from the very beginning that not only would his plan save Celtic but that it would make him money, nothing wrong with that. He delivered what he said he would and deserved to walk away with the profit he'd made.

At the end of the day if it wasn't for him putting his money where his mouth was Celtic would have gone bust and either would have had to start from scratch or be extinct, he saved the club and laid the foundations for the future success we've witnessed since his departure.

:50: Could'nt have put it better. Agree with every word. Get the man back before its too late to show him our appreciation, hopefully on our SPL trophy presentation. Get something named after him, after all he's resposible for where we are now. :50:

Hero , Think about it like the post above, we were a few minutes away from going under. I cant even imagine supporting another football team other than celtic, its part of who i am and run s right through my family , always has done and always will.
Of course he was here to make a few quid but look what he done, think about all the happy memories weve had since he came here , wouldnt have been possible without his vision for the club so like i said above the guy is a * hero.

Of course he wanted to make money, who doesn't. But I couldn't care if he was in it for the money. No Bunnet = No Celtic

just to add to what i previously said. fregus was a visionary he built a stadium for 60,000 when the average gate was massively below that. he knew if the product was right on the park that the fanbase would buy into it.
    he was right.
he laid the foundations for the way our club is run today.
