Just wondered how they came to it and what they are planning to get into a proper job.

I have 11 years of school education and then 3 college years in which I got 3 A-levels and had to sign on the dole yesterday. Was a horrible feeling, I feel useless. I saw the very oppopsite of what I want from my life in that job centre yesterday, mothers with 6 kids wearing tracksuits and singing on, I saw a man in he's 40's who looked like he had done 12 rounds with Mike Tyson and spoke in a horrible vile manner.

Never thought it would come to this for me, Im not saying im better than these people as I would be a hippocrite but it came as such a shock to me yesterday, I don't want to end up like people I saw yesterday.

Im only 19 and left college 4 months ago, should have really done this months ago as I have lost on on alot of money, but I didn't think I would have to, applied for 10 appretiecships and a few other jobs and only got 3 interviews in which I was unsuccessful in each.

Quite depressing time really, I really need to get something sorted out asap.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

I'm 16 mate, I tried to get a job for at least 3 months, I went for apprenticeships etc, got interviews and even passed the SNIPEF test, I never got it, my dad just got a job in roofing after spending 1 YEAR unemployed and he has been working since he was 16, hes 41 now and he said it was *, he applied for everything possible, from Window Making to Bus Driving, he still never got them.

Me! Hence why i * about on a forum all day! Did well at school, went to uni but dropped out after 2 years. Since then short-term job/signing on/volunteering/short-term job/signing on etc etc. My own fault really as i'm a lazy, anti-social *. Tried in a panic to get back in to uni just there through clearing, but there are so many folk trying i hadn't a hope in *. Gonny go for a non-commital job in a call-centre or something & make a proper fist of getting back to uni for next term

I'm afraid it's a sad sign of the times - jobs are scarce at the moment. Don't be ashamed about signing on - use it as a positive energy - it will make you even hungrier to find employment. Obviously you have tried hard to find a job and have been unlucky thus far but you will need to be patient i'm afraid. Don't let it get to you, this time next week an opportunity could have arisen. You just never know with life. Keep plugging away and you'll get something eventually.

Im have a degree in civil engineering and the best i can get is a part time job in a sports shop, all my mates are qualified in something or have degrees and all are on the scratcher.all you can do is keep trying and hopefully things will come good, its a good time to upskill or study if you can because we could be in this rut for a while.
Might go back to college next year if things are the same

Cheers mate, good avice, I think I will get something soon, I hope so

I know mate, it's not an ideal situation but the difference is you have tried to find work and you clearly would be committed in employment whereas a lot of people cheat the system and have no interest in finding work. The system is there to help, remember that, it only has a bad reputation due to those who abuse it but it provides a function for those in need of it. Good luck mate.

I felt very overdressed, shirt and tie and looked like a complete * comparing to the 90% of people who looked a mess!!!

i'm in the same boat.strugglin like * to get a job.

cos i've got my own house it needs to be over 30 hours a week and within bus distance.hefty *.people who think you've got it easy on the bru need to have a whack at it.livin off a pittance, getting sent on courses left, right and centre.treated like * basically.all the jobs just now are p/t unless you have a cscs card or sia or that.its health and safety that has made it harder to get a job.my mates been working as a labourer for the last 5 years or that and he could lose his job if he fails his cscs test...lot of pish

It's a sign of the times, I wouldn't worry about the stigma attached. Jobs are few and far between at the minute wherever you are and whatever you work as.
