im not that fussed about given ....id take schmicheal but dont know if he,s sighned with leicester...he,s as good as westwood givens quality...but to much wages ......keane is a good striker but hoops and stokes proved they can bag the goals at a 10 of the price..i say keep looking for young bargains...and hopefully scottish ones ....

According to reports Aston Villa are interested in Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given.

The Daily Mail claims new Villa manager Alex McLeish is eyeing the Republic of Ireland stopper.

Former Villa No 1 Brad Friedel recently left to join Tottenham and McLeish is now hunting in earnest for a replacement.

However, while the Scot may see Given as a perfect successor, City's asking price may prove an insurmountable hurdle for the former Birmingham boss.

Celtic and West Bromwich Albion are also believed to be interested.

Well said, man. There's an awful lot of blustery, unintelligent opinions on this forum, keep the thoughtful views coming. Leaving any actual happenings aside and following on from earlier posts, i reckon if Shay and Robbie came back and joined the current squad, we'd definitely secure the league. They are both unappreciated in England, getting a wee bit older but still top class, so why not? Everyone is assuming that they would demand top wages but that may not be the case.

that's bullshit too, he is a fan and an ex player.

Also regarding schmeichel junior, bit early to get excited about him, good keeper but not his Dad, bit like Pat Jennings and his son Patrick who failed to secure the first team spot at Derry City.

Never heard of him. I'd take Given now. A few years ago i would have gone for Greg Coupet who used to play for Lyon, excellent keeper who was much better than Barthez but never got a proper chance for France. Very few keepers at the top level now who really impress me

I don't think we will get either, I can see us getting an unheard if keeper.

Haha yeh your right there, he's better then an unheard of guy, unless we unearth another artur boruc :D

But Forster got like 24 clean sheets or something last season, so he wouldn't be a bad choice, but I don't think Newcastle want to sell :(
