I can’t understand how any manager would want to get rid of there best players, like Boruc, McGeady and Hinkle just because it brings more money into the club. <o></o>
Going from what he was saying yesterday, which is it?
Asked if incoming deals hung on McGeady's departure he said: "Probably yes because I won't have nine and a half million quid! I'd like to think we'd get all of it if he did go. <o></o>

One is a hope, one is for sure and the later is saying he gets to decide.

Selling one player to buy a couple of players and still having change only tells me that he is also happy to follow the same structure as WGS.

When I heard him on SSN last night saying that the McGeady deal has been dragging on to long added with the fact he came out and stated 2 weeks ago about how he thought McGeady may not want to stay at Celtic any more just * me off big time.

Im going with a change on board policy on this one , even though in Mcgeadys case it's not quite the same as with other players from the last few seasons..
We've had players with decent value like JVOH , Naka , Mcmanus , and maybe Boruc all stay on at Celtic for possibly a season too long and their values then depreciated to a fraction of what it was before or they left for nothing , and there's also the reported bids for others like Brown (£9m from Newcastle , £9m from Bayern for Mcgeady) that were turned down and while the board allowed the managers to keep all those players , what did the players give in return in their last seasons ? poor service is all I can think off..
I don't see the board passing up big money offers any more unless it's for newly recruited players but even then Im not sure it would matter.. I also think Mcgeady might take the move to Russia.. He's clearly not wanted at Celtic and wouldn't surprise me if he's told he'll be well down the pecking order if he decides to snub a move away and stay for another year.. Could get messy if that situation arises so I hope he goes as it would be the best for all parties..

 

Who's forcing him out? An offers been made and accepted and he's considering it. Lennon's said he'd like Aiden in the team next year.

I'd like to see him stay but the money being offered is ridiculous, the lad's worth maybe 5 million tops.

 

I think it's clear selling Aiden then using the £9.5 million to strengthen our problem areas (CB, LB, GK) will make us a much better team. McGeady is a good individual. So i can see why Lennon want's this deal done quickly as it gives him more time to sort out these areas going into the new season.

 

lenny said last week that he still wanted a gk, lb and a cd and that signing players for those possitions wasnt dependent on selling aiden mcgeady. i just think thats typical paper bullshit. i think selling mcgeady and bringing in 9.5 million will probably mean we can sign a better quality of player.

 

I wish people would stop saying that Lennon wants to get rid of his best players in Boruc, Hinkel and McGeady...these are three players who WANT or WANTED to leave, and obviously Boruc and Hinkel are in last years of their contract.

Lennon is NOT trying to force McGeady out of the club. The only thing he has said that if he had £10million quid it would be brilliant for him to invest it back in the team. He has said time and time again that he wants McGeady to stay, but why persist in keeping a player if it is his desire eto leave?

 

The way it's been spun is that Lenny's been saying for weeks that Aiden is wanting away , the latest sounbyte being that his head isn't right..
I've not heard one thing from Aiden about wanting away although he's said in the past that he'd like to experience football in other leagues..

It's never very popular when Kenny Miller's name pops up but he's the last guy I remember in a situation where it was spun that he wanted to leave when his side of the story was completely different , that he wanted to stay and was basically told by Peter Lawell "Leave or you won't play for us again".. I just wonder if the board are calling the shots on this and are trying to force his hand because there's talk of financial incentives to Mcgeady to sweeten the switch to Russia if he accepts the move..

I don't understand why some people can't see the bigger picture. Yes we're loosing an extremley talented individual but the team as a whole will be much much stronger. That's what's important.

why does anyone want to see one of our real bhoys go, a true celt and the only player who has played for the badge for the last 3 or 4 years considering hes still young, if he wants to move on to better himself then thats fair hes served us well but for him to be forced out, i think is a joke especially when lennon played with aiden and knows how important he is!

But that just make the "I'm skint if Aiden doesn't leave" 'conclusion' wrong, and the premise for the topic wrong.

What I am saying is, that it's up to Aiden McGeady if he wants to go or not. It isn't his responsibility to finance Celtics futher investments if he prefer to stay in the east end of Glasgow rather than going to Russia.

I have no problem with Lennon saying that he have to decide by the end of the week, if he with Celtic or not. We can't have this "saga" going on rest of August.

But I predict many in here will going to blame him if reject Spartak, which IMO wouldn't be fair.

 

I dont get this. If lennon knew he had to rely on aiden leaving why didnt he sort the most problematic area of the team first (defense) just in case the worst case scenario happened and mcgeady stayed. There is a possibility that we will now have to rely on players who werent our first target and end up with bosmans or players valued under a mill
