Darren O'Dea isn't a regular starter so it's a silly point to make.

New signing. Said this last season that a new player capable of fulfilling the captaincy should be signed as there is no one in that squad who is even close to being fit enought to wear the arm-band

We're exactly where we were when McManus was made captain, a sever lack of candidates.

Hopefully Lennon's quote in today's papers, where he says he's still looking to bring in a leader, means he's looking to bring in a captain.

Perfect candidate - Barry Robson... oh wait that * Mowbray had his stupid way and got rid of him.

Couldnae believe it when he did - robson was a true leader on the park and would've been perfect for the captaincy role, he was also a great tough tackling midfielder. So sad we let him go. Cannae believe folk on here wanted him to go. Now who do we have thats's capable of leading the team?

Agreed. Robson was on fire for Boro last season and is absolutely loved there. He scored a load of goals there too in less than half a season.

We don't have anyone good enough to be a Celtic Captain. Our Captain has to prove his worth to the team first and foremost. We need to bring in a captain I think or not bother having one. Let them show they are worth the honour by showing it on the park. Jos was speaking honestly but we don't need the "we're *, and we know we are" mentality in front of the media. It was hardly a revelation and he should have kept it shut. In the dressing room then great but to help fuel the hun media....er no. Great celtic captains have never been outspoken critics of their teams in public.

The fawning over Barry Robson is ridiculous.. :56:
We had Barry Robson for a couple of years and apart from showing the right mentality of getting stuck in , which can be seen as deserving of wearing the armband , he didn't warrant the praise for his footballing ability and often didn't play well enough (just like other journeymen who were fortunate to end up at Celtic) to be deserving of a place in a Celtic team..

I like how people use past or present players form (Caldwell - Wigan) , (Mcmanus , Robson - Middlesboro) , (Sammy - Greece) as some kind of proof that us Celtic fans are idiots who just don't get it , when we've been watching these very same guys feckup for Celtic (which is all that matters to us) on a regular basis..

As for captain.. In the long term I expect Ledley to emerge as a solid contributor and be a candidate but as others have said , maybe we'll buy this seasons captain in the coming days..

Can you not read? i said "Cannae believe folk on here wanted him to go."

I don't understand why some folk wanted him to leave? He had all the credentials to be a great captain - passion, aggression, desire, composed on the ball, could galvanise the rest of the team when we were down and had great experience of the spl and played in big European games. What does Hooiveld have that Robson didnae? Jos has only played a handful of games for us, not played in big european games, hasnae even proved to us that he's a quality player yet (although i'm not saying he's not). So why should he be given the armband when he's not proved what he is capable of... it seems that unfortunately, Brown is our only option at the moment :54:

You must be dillusional mate if you don't think that Robson is/was a great player for us. Him and Hartley were the main reasons we won 3 in a row under Strachan - their displays in the last 7/8 game swere phenomenal and it says a great deal about Robson's ability that he was brought in by Strachan in the season where he could win 3IAR because Chesney knew Robson was capable of driving the team on to the title :50:

Robson over that heedless chicken Brown anyday!

As much as I would like a Scottish or Irish player to be captain of Celtic there are none at the club capable, certainly not brown anyway. I would go for Jos Hooiveld. He seems to have the attitude and character for it. He said after the Braga balls up he wanted to go into the dressing room and grab a few players by the throat, but he felt because he had hardly played in any meaningful games for Celtic it wasn't really his place yet. So maybe after he gets a few more games under his belt we will hopefully see a real leader on and off the pitch.
