I watch every game properly. It's how I know he is absolutely rank rotten and provides nothing. Total waste of wages and should be shipped out sharpish.

No I don't say the same about McGeady, he works far harder and actually attempts to hit the by line because he isn't * scared of pulling another hamstring.

I bring McGeady into this debate because the 2 players play on the same position on opposite wings! I'm quote entitled to bring other players into this thread just like others have done with McCourt, McGinn etc!

Rank Rotten? Mate you just showing yourself up now! Whether you like him as a player/PERSON is up to you but to say he's rank rotten when the last 4 managers he's played under have rated him highly (strachan rating him higher than mcgeady) so is it them that are not watching the games properly?? We were a much better team last year when he was in it!

Here here :50: Totally agree with you here. O'Neill, Strachan, Mowbray and now Lennon have all rated him so should we trust them or.....Hammer...:97:

    Shaun Maloney

    Season 2005/2006

    Played 43 games

    Scored 16 goals

    Plus 24 assists.

I stand corrected for saying he scored 20 goals.

In 193 games Maloney has scored 53 goals for Celtic...compare his record to these other left sided Celtic midfielders:

Tommy Burns 352 games and 52 goals
Murdo McLeod 281 games and 55 goals
Alan Thompson 158 games and 37 goals
Aiden McGeady 185 games and 31 goals
Bertie Auld 176 games and 53 goals
John Collins 221 games and 47 goals

It's fair to say that other than the great Bertie Auld (who scored the same amount of goals) Maloney has the best ratio of all Celtic's left sided midfielders since the world war two.

    Nothing like the facts eh?

I just failed to see a connection between what I wrote and your McGeady input. Both ain't worldclass.

He scored 16 not 20. Nothing like a bit of exaggerating eh? Maloney hasn't always been a winger, he started as a striker.

I stated somewhere how much time he spent on the pitch in the past 3 seasons in %. if I remember correctly it was between 25-35%. I don't think we can't rely on a player, that is only available for 2.5-3.5 out of 10 games.

He was awesome in that POTY season, that can't be doubted. But then he failed to stay healthy and hardly ever played. The Maloney today and the maloney 4 years ago are two completely different guys. I doubt he will ever reach that form again. He is done.

    Nothing like a optimist eh?

He's still on Celtic's books for at least a further two years. FFS get behind one of our genuine talents and stop being so negative.

I'm not negative. I'm a realist. I will support whoever is out on the pitch 100%, but I'm not taking part in daydreams anymore.

An opinion I share if we can keep him fit! Surely he's got to be allowed half a dozen competetive games to get back to match sharpness! Too many people are expecting too much too soon!

I disagree though, he had the talent and potential 4/5 years ago. He's how old now? 27/28? These should be his peak years and quite honestly he's never sustained any sort of form for back to back seasons. Sadly, he's never reached the heights of his potential and should make way for the emerging talent of Forrest. In the same way somebody made way for the emerging talent of Maloney all those years ago.

Face it Maloney's not good enough. We have gave him more than enough chances since we signed him back and he's not convinced many people. And that would be even more chances if he wasn't always injured! I want to keep Aiden and sell Maloney but unfortunately that isn't going to happen. Even though I agree that Forrest would be under too much pressure being a regular for the first team, he would do a better job.
