Luisten plenty of world class defenders and other positions for that matter had no pace but what they do is learn to read the game and thats what makes them top players look at davie weir he has no pace but reads the game well and thats something you get with experience which he doesnt have at the moment so he has to play to develop his game but i believe he has shown enough to say with time he maybe will turn into a decent player for us

That's true mate but David Weir had to have a reasonable amount of pace to make it to the English Premiership with Everton. It was there that he honed his game reading skills. Then later in his career when his pace deserted him he could fall back on those skills. How is Thompson ever going to reach that level? He's very short of pace and because of his age he doesn't read the game well yet either. If you compare Thompson to Danny Wilson then I think you can see how much more composed Wilson looks as a player. I think it's going to be a struggle for Josh Thompson to make it at Celtic.

take him after caddis and ferry you's will be gutted with the signing of josh thompson

his pace is the least of his worries, he can't defend. That's the first thing I'd expect a defender to be able to do, I don't care if he can do 100m in 10 seonds, if he can't defend then he shouldn't be on the pitch.
People go easy on him based on nothing more than him being young and have been brought in. Decent potential... I wonder how many people would think that if he was playing at hamilton or something. If they'd actually want to sign him?

Some players dont need pace in the Centre of Defense ,experience makes a difference with older players who can read the game but Thompson is 19 and really for a lad at that age he should be faster in the chase but he lacks it badly ,dont see him featuring much now at Celtic so all the best to him if he is off.

Josh Thompson was the only player i would give pass marks to for TM's reign of terror, he made mistakes yes but he was superior to all our other defenders, and you want to flog a young international defender just like hes nothing? :97::87:

slight Exaggeration there mate, he really isn't that bad, maybe not Celtic quality but certainly not even close to being the worst Celtic player.

You lot are really harsh. I think that he will get better with experience and a year at Swindon with familiar faces will do him the world of good. I would have him in the team before Loovens any day of the week !!!!!!!!!!!

Give the young bhoy a chance it's a massive step up for him he will take time he is only young. I would send him out on loan. That way he will get to play regulary and he can only come back a better player
