He is probably comparable to MON, Lenny, Pat Jennings etc when they were young and first played for Northern Ireland. It was about a chance to play football locally and they were not really interested in the politics of it all.

Quite possibly, if he is indeed inclined politically.

Look at Paddy and Niall with NIR currently

even if some people won't believe me, but there is a life outside politics.

I hope he won't have to face any political comments, behaviours or acts and can be like everyone else, a celtic football player.

I think a lot of people in conflict zones get a real sickener of all the extreme clashing politics around them and get to hate politics, especially the clashing nationalisms. People like MON etc are men of the world and probably have pretty free spirited views and were only too glad to leave all that behind. An awful lot of Celtic fans think people all define themselves by politics, especially those of Ireland, but I know a lot of Irish people who simply dont do politics because of the antagonistic nature of the politics and the black and white stances both sides take. I would not be surprised if the Israeli guy is like that - just wants to live a good life and not get involved in all of that stuff and good luck to him.

Well most footballers aren't - but in that part of the world, I think a lot of things get politicised.

I don't think he would have much of a problem with support for Palestinians though - they are essentially people from a similar ethnic background to himself.

The one thing we'd want to discourage is crass anti-Israel displays from fans at any point - which is good, cos it might encourage people to learn that a lot of Israelis (many of them jewish) actually oppose Zionism, and support a Palestinian homeland...

Aye sometimes it can be over consuming and controlling. Plus he has the outlet and distraction in his profession as a footballer and he now will live away from home.

Incidentally, was Di Canio expressive of himself while here ?

and how did Eyal Berkovic get on ?

Yeah I knew Jews in England who had lived in Israel and hated all the extremism and politics and left.

    Good news, welcome Kayal.
Don't know much about this young player, but I'm optimistic & the more signings we make the more chance of us uncovering a star!!

The only way I can imagine Berkovic becoming interested in international politics is if he declares himself as a country.

Who cares what nationality he is from , The lad wants to be here its clear from the way he spoke you could see the passion and desire to be here at Celtic .
he had very good offers from bigger clubs and came here ,That speaks volumes for the lad we should just support him . Kayal the Hun smasher.

I'll freely admit to knowing sweet FA about this guy - but like all that are signed by Celtic am willing to get behind and give him a shout & a chance to show what they have to offer. Here's hoping !

I discovered a wee while back that Hartson is something of a minor celebrity in Israel, following that footage appearing on the internet.

I think it struck a chord with a lot of folk. :56:
