We are simply not good enough to compete in Europe anymore. We can all sit here and slag players off, but look at the players we have. How the * can you expect us to be taken seriously with Mulgrew, a former Aberdeen player who cannot defend to save his life, Samaras (our main striker), a guy who was probably one of the worst strikers to ever play in the EPL, along with the rest of the hopeless diddys in our squad? We have no one in our squad who can score goals and our defence is terrible. We have a few decent players, but thats about it. Even if we somehow do squeeze past Braga, we will lose in the next round, and end up in the Europa cup anyway.

Call me negative, a hun, whatever you want, but i didn't expect us to do anything today. I expect us to win the league, maybe even the treble, but thats only because we play in Scotland. We need to stop looking at europe, because our team simply isn't good enough to go away from home and win. Now lets focus on the league, a realistic hope, shall we?

everyone says we're better than this but are we? at this point? i wasn't impressed by the american tour, not scoring outwith penalties and * defending. are we better than this? i haven't seen enough to say that's absolutely true

I bet there were plenty of times between 1970 and 2003 that people said we'd never make another European final.

    These things go in cycles.

Mate, you're not being particularly negative, just realistic.

The Portuguese league is far better than our border line professional SPL - and this mob finished second. I don't think they were particularly amazing, but they are better than us. Of course we are a house hold name, and a bigger club, but right now they are a class above.

Our side is not ready for Europe. I also think we will clear up domestically this season but that probably says more about the SPL than us. We're weak in so many areas and it will take time to build a team that can even go into Europe and not get shown up.

Lets get a hold of the SPL first and worry about Europe next season. We certainly ain't ready now. Out of our depth big time.

To be totally honest, I was expecting a scoring draw, Braga were good last night but 3-0 flattered them hugely. I'm not too bothered that we might miss out on europe as Lennon said himself, we have to reinstate ourselves as the dominant force in the SPL before aiming to make a dent in europe.

This is just the beginning, we shouldn't be looking too much into this result (or preseason friendlys ffs)

I will say that I'm very surprised at Samaras being put upfront on his own as he's always looked better when he's played out wide.

Oh and on another note, the only time Mulgrew should be anywhere near a Celtic top is if he's buying one from the superstar. In the first half alone, I counted nine...NINE times he hoofed the ball up the pitch to absolutely noone.

    Charlie...it's a 5 man midfield, * use it!!!

totally agree that right now we,re not good enough for cl maybe a wee run in the europa is possible if the players gel in time and lenny isnt afraid to say no to the board and keeps the likes of aidan& hinkle !!most importantly gets a lb that can defend and clear out the dross at the club which there is plenty e.g our skipper

Mulgrew taking more flak than others unfairly. The good players, ha, didn't kick a ball

I thought that our movement in midfield was * and no one was showing for the ball leaving Mulgrew with few options. Should have probably just kept possession maybe but I don't think the result was his fault by any means.

i asked awhile back would people be happy with celtic playing at europa lge level where we could establish ourselves at a level where we could compete , the fact is we wont make europe this year unless theres a miracle , defence should have been priorty for lenny we should have gone into this game with aback 4 that was going to b first choice all season and that had played afew games together, loovens is * , hoovield i believe isnt much better ,new keeper was needed and new left back and what we got was same old * newspaper reports linking us with campbell and james and we go into most important game with hinkel on bench and basically a weaker defence than last year , money needs to b spent get the players we need in now win the lge and kick on from there cause europe chmps lge is not where we belong at present,

Lets not jump the gun here shall we?

I mean, its Lennys first game in charge, many many changes in the squad, the team are still gelling together. The positives we can take from last night are that the three goals were conceded through set pieces.

I am confident Lenny will do the job here and I am not even beginning to think that this tie is over.

3-0 at home and then win on penalties. Call me over optimistic if you will, but Lenny won't be tolerating any crap now, he will make sure the team does the job.

LIsten now is not the time to make judgements truth is there are no easy games but the time to judge how we are going forward is at the end of the season a defeat always hurts but keep the faith

There really isnt any need to slag him or certain others the simple truth is they are not good enough to play for us !! This is where we find out about lenny as a manager theres no harm in getting things wrong as long as you learn from your mistakes , certain managers have tried to kid us in the past about the merits of certain players or even the standard of perfomances instead of just sorting the problems out (punt the dross) * players will kill you time and again till you send them to coventry barnsley or wherever they should be playing just not celtic do it lenny !!

Yeah Mulgrew was terrible but he was hardly helped, this is his debut and there were others just as bad.

What we need is a bit of organisation - start from the back first. From that game we didn't seem to have a solid foundation. Once you get that we can start guaging how good we might perform against UEFA cup sized teams...
