Real Mallorca offer stopper Ivan Ramis to Celtic in cut-price £1.5m deal

    Jul 25 2010 Sunday Mail
    Ramis
REAL MALLORCA have begged Celtic to re-ignite their interest in Spanish centre-back Ivan Ramis - and have offered the stopper for a cut-price £1.5million to sweeten the deal.
The cash-strapped club are £71.4million in debt and have gone into voluntary administration.
On Thursday the La Liga outfit were excluded from this season's Europa League by UEFA for 'not fulfilling the admission criteria'.
Boss Michael Laudrup has been ordered to sell his best players in a bid to ease the cash crisis and Ramis will be one of the first to ship out.
Former Celtic boss Tony Mowbray was on the brink of signing the 25-year-old on January's transfer deadline day but Hoops couldn't meet the Spaniards' £2.5million asking price.
That fee has now been slashed and Mailsport understands Mallorca have made contact with Celtic in a bid to off-load Ramis.
Current Hoops gaffer Neil Lennon is a fan of the defender, who was instrumental in Mallorca's fine fifth-place nish in La Liga last season.
Lennon is in the market for a centre-half and Ramis is now an affordable target. The player himself is resigned to leaving Spain as he has just one year left on his deal and must be sold by Real if they want to get any money for him.
He said: "I accept I have to exit as we are in a dif cult situation. If I leave, it will suit all parties."
Ramis' agent Javier Diaz told MailSport last night a move to Celtic may be possible - despite the collapse of the previous deal.
He said: "In December it looked as if Ivan would go to Celtic but the two clubs couldn't agree on it.
"Now the situation has changed. Real Mallorca need money and it's possible we could begin talks again. Ivan likes Celtic and he would be open to going there.
"He'd enjoy Scottish football but we'll have to wait and see."

Thats was from Sundays paper so I would suggest thats why.

    From celticrumours

Celtic said to be unwilling to talk to Mallorca about Ramis unless they supply scans of his knee. Apparently there was a problem there once.

If that is in fact the hold up it is a very smart move by Celtic. Knee injuries are very serious in any sport, especially football and they are often hard to fully recover from. Time and again we see players have their careers cut short by these types of injuries because of lingering affects from them. The last thing a club like Celtic want is to invest time and money into an injury prone player with little shelf life. Celtic simply cannot afford to waste money like that. Plus we already have Hooiveld who has seen a series of injuries dramatically affect his performance within the last year. We certainly don't need the defence being decimated by injuries again regardless of how good Ramis may be.

that would certainly explain why their has been no interest in him from other teams.

we had agreed everything with his club and him to sign him in january but then his agent demanded about £500,000 to make the deal go through. thats when celtic pulled out of the deal. maybe they wont deal with him again now i dont know??? why does everyone on here rate him so highly though?? nobody knows nothing about him. if he was that good surely they woudnt be begging us to sign him for £1.5m ???
