We really do need a goalscorer if we want to do anything in europe this season although I dnt think what we got is even good enough domestically.

We're away first so I think we should try for a draw away then go for the victory at home if we get past Braga i'd take Spurs as I think they are a beatable side.

FC Basel were a well known club to Celtic fans and in fact are considered one of the most successful clubs in Swiss football.

We had played them in an epic EC quarter final in the 70s and played them also in Cup Winners Cup the 60s.

There's a huge difference between playing a club with a pedigree and affluence like Basel (over 25 trophy wins including 13 championships) than a club like Braga - one trophy win in their entire history and with very little money behind them.

There can be no excuses if Celtic can't beat this team.

The ties are scheduled for July 27/28 (first leg) and August 3/4 (second leg).

This is definately a good draw, we should win the game and I don't think Lenny will be thinking of anything other than a solid victory. Keep the faith, if we could get there this season it would be a great start to Lennys management, can't wait on it to begin now

I think the team we have right now along with a goalscoring striker will see us through.

    Spurs?

No chance, we want to avoid them. Harry is a great manager who is looking to make more quality additions.

At the time there where no players you could name that played with Basel same with Braga.. At the time Basel we're one of the EASIEST teams we could of drew thats the point. There are not any easy games in the Champions League. FFS Artmedia Bratislava was only 5 years ago. So because braga have never won a domestic title etc there going to be some sort of pushovers. :31: get a grip we've more or less the same squad that lost the league to a skint mediocre Rangers team only a few months ago we shouldn't be underestimating anyone

They finished ahead of sporting lisbon and porto. History means nothing.

FFS, how can some Celtic fans be so pessimistic about this draw. What do you want? To play the teams from outer mongolia's fourth division. If Celtic fans can't get up for and believe we can beat a club like Braga - then we really ought to chuck it!

I can understand trepidation when we play big European teams, but come on - Braga?

Dont get the question to be honest mate

Of course I would rather go through, all Im saying is its far from an easy draw, a team who finished above Porto in the league, 2nd I think.

This team will be pacey as *, we are in the middle of building nearly a completely new side.

Some folk need to calm their scants!

Sampdoria, Auxerre, Spurs, Werder Bremen or Seville.

    Auxerre is probably the easiest.

Who said we CAN'T beat them?

I think you need to read posts more carefully. fans are just suggesting it may not be as easy as some make out.

Not an easy draw at all. Finished 2nd in Portugal ahead of Porto and Sporting so must be a decent side. Quite fancy going across for this, when will ticket/flight deals go up on the website ?

Mate, GIANT difference between being pessimistic and realistic.

What do you mean we cant get up for it, im mega excited about the draw, cant wait actually, but im not going to allow myself to think that this is by any means an easy draw. I also believe, as a realist, we are big underdogs!

    Whats wrong with that!

Does that mean i dont want or hope that we dont go through?

Is that the same Sporting Lisbon and Porto that were beaten in recent years by arguably one of the weakest ever Rangers sides?
