Although, when I think about, the deal is the best for both parties. Unless of course Fiorentina don't sell Frey and Boruc spends whole season on the bench getting even fatter.

I love the big guy, the sale of Boruc and probably McManus * me off and I'm gutted as they were my two favourite players.

That aside, his performances lately (last two seasons) were just a shadow of the "Holy Goalie" we were used to. His fantastic presence, unreal saves and other qualities were disappearing slowly. With several saves he just reminded us how good he was (most notable against Hibs), but that's about it.

He was always a bit of a loon (one of the reasons I like the big man), but his strong character and general presence in the box faded, loads of off-field problems hindered him. Never had a cool head to be fair, but we could clearly witness that his mind was elsewhere during the games, all the passion and noise he produced to lift the team simply wasn't there anymore.

From 'keeper who we could rely on helping us when defence fails at any time and stand-out player, to lad who's just another ordinary goalkeeper. SPL was full of them, like any other league. Artur was special at his prime, probably one of the best we had between the sticks.

Also, there's financial aspect of the deal - 12 months left on contract. Take £1.5-2.5m (reported fees) or spend more to maintain his contract until next July and let him go on free? As I said, this transfer is the best option for both parties involved. Few years ago we could've easily cashed in £6m+ for Boruc. I'm glad we didn't. Now he will have chance for new period in his career, his career here was stagnating as he didn't develop anymore and we didn't have the 'old' Boruc, just some 'keeper on par with Cerny, Smith, Langfield etc. with few exceptions of some cracking performances. Other than that, doesn't stand out of the crowd of SPL of other #1 players.

All the best, big man. Fantastic player who done us proud on many occasions, simply magnificent lad to have in squad and left us with some great memories. Fine Celt all around.:shamrock:

    Thanks for the memories.

My only concern is about the quality of backup to Zaluska

am I the only one a little bit happy about this? he has made as many blunders as he has "world class" saves , look at the huns game at home when they pounded us 4-2 , dropping the ball at kenny missers feet ect. , step forward big lukasz , your time has come to prove yourself big man :50:

This is nuts. Seems like a ridiculous low amount for a goalkeeper who at his age should be hitting his prime and i presume mcgeady is going next having been left at home with his ''thigh strain''. Just don't rate zaluska. Hope i am wrong re him.

So your saying just because Lennon is making a few changes that we are going to have a bad season like last season then ?

i think the difference with Lennon is that he has (hopefully) time to gel the team together and will be a far better motivator than the one whos name shall never be mentioned:icon_mrgreen:

Lennon will sort it out and win the league tbh hes a young manager he will learn from his mistakes and i agree with theres going to be too many ins and outs but it needs to be done the squad isnt good enough and he will do all he can to make it better for example would WGS or mowbary have tempted ledley?? would they have noticed him Hmmmmmmm

The difference is that Lenny is bringing in players who are fit for purpose, whereas Mowbray brought the wrong type of players to the club. It was like Mowbray had never done his homework on the Scottish game properly, and to be fair to him he did admit he hadn't been following Scottish football for two to three years, makes you wonder why the Board slated him for manager in the first place.Lenny has had no choice but to replace these players, plus the others that are coming to the end of their contracts.

What would you rather have for this season ? Mowbray's * or Lenny's lions ?

totally gutted about this.. :( and for such a small fee... surely even in his last year he is worth more than 1.6million :(:(:(

also, its not really freeing up any wages considering ledley is on a 25k basic. :|

    gutted!

Boruc was, when on form, our best player. one of the best goalkeepers in the world. however, we haven't seen this form in quite some time at a consistent level.

Strachan made drastic changes just as much as Mowbray. i'm not that worried about the loss of Boruc as i would of a couple of seasons ago, no matter how much i love the guy. his expensive contract was expiring next summer and, as said, he hasn't hit the form that labelled him as one of the best in a while. i rate Zaluska highly. i've always been of the opinion of being quite content with him being number one WHEN Boruc was to move on, as all players must.

i don't even think we need to delve into the market for another. how many games does a number one goalkeeper miss a season? happy to have Cevi in the wings or a youngster (a la Marshall).

having said all that, £1.7m is a joke and i can't find any sources apart from The Guardian supporting this claim. i can find multiple sources suggesting in the region of £3.5m. still a little disappointed but happy for the freed wages.
